New Policy for Suspensions: For Excessive Issues

If a member has more than the following suspensions then they will be blocked from OT, Political and Religion Forums until their suspension frequency falls and the moderation team agrees to (with a team decision, I am the final call) allow access back in those forums. This is a step between banning a member and simply suspending them time and time again.

More than 5 suspensions in 3 months

More than 10 suspensions in 6 months

More than 15 suspensions in 12 months

As you can see, the above is very liberal. If someone is being suspended every three weeks then something is up. Again we welcome contribution in the regular upper forums however OT, Political and Religion Forums will be off limits to those exceeding the above. Members abusing the forums as usual will be suspended or banned per the TOS.

I think this is a good idea. It prioritizes the needs of upper-fora users who also participate in OT/PR over those who exclusively use OT/OR. This is fair, given the objective of this site.

If you don't have a reducing 3 month threshold, any offender will trip the first threshold before getting to the 6-month or 12-month limits

I guess what I wonder is whether those suspended from P&R and OT might be of use in other fora, like Regionals or Moving Here or even (shock!) Site Related. It seems like a broad brush has been taken right now with the person who is under this certain form of suspension which prohibits him from participating where he can be of use and where he said (to me at least) he felt he actually could be of use. From what I understand, he'd like to take this time as a form of rehabilitation, but in order to do so he needs to be where he can add value -- and that's in his Regional forum. Is there anyway this can be tweaked?

Too generous. I would have gone with 3, 5, 6. If you are going to pull the trigger, make it lethal. You can't keep codling habitual TOS abusers.

Lower thresholds are fine when each moderator is equally likely to suspend a poster for the same infringement for the same amount of time. That is not the case. There needs to be room for moderator error.

Actually, this was an error in implementation which has now been corrected. Under the new policy the individual who meets the suspension limits would be banned from participating in the Off Topic and the Religion & Politics forums only. All other forums should be accessible.

It could be 'tweaked', however, to address abuses in other forums, for example if someone habitually violates TOS and receives suspensions for their posts in one of the Regional forums instead of in OT or P&R, they could be banned from being able to participate in that Regional forum. (This is an example only and does not refer to the individual in question, btw).
