Hi there

so I have my K1 visa in hand, my fiance and I live in Seoul together, we have decided to leave Korea mid March.

now I am wondering how the process at the airport goes, if we're traveling together do we have to wait in separate lines or if I am held up can he wait with me, or does he have to go wait somewhere else??

how long have other people been held up at the airports? I am from Iran so I am sure it will take longer just would like to know how it works. :)

First of all, Congrats!

You would be in separate lines. You at the non-immigrants/visitors line while he stays at the Citizens/immigrants line. He cannot be on the same line with you so he'll just wait for you in front. Don't worry, you would not lose sight of him.

You should be able to go through together. If there is someone organizing the lines just tell them you are together and that your fiance is a K1.

In our case we went through the Resident/Citizen line. The CBP officer had married her husband on a K1 so all went well.

They can make you use different lines, but if you ask to be on the same line, they will usually permit you.

So make sure you both can use your cell phones in the United States so you can stay in touch in case they make you separate.

Congratulations on the visa, not an easy thing for a citizen of Iran to get.

We asked to go through together and they sent us all through the immigration line. When we got there, he looked at my mixed race daughter (same last name at that point) and said, "she's your daughter?!" Erm, yeah?! You'd think the notion of a white woman actually having intimate relations with a black man was something he couldn't fathom actually happening. And then he pointed to Ry and goes, "And who's he?!!" Erm... my fiance. "But he's not got a visa, huh?" Erm, no. He's a US Citizen... doh. lol

Anyway, Ry had to wait outside the secondary room for us, took about 30 minutes.

Not true at all - They will almost certainly let you go through the same line. Just ask - We were told we could go through the visitors line together.

I was wondering the same thing. Our POE will probably be Chicago, does anybody know specifically whether Chicago allows the USC to accompany his K1 visa fiancee and children in the immigrant/visitor line?

Usually, if someone is standing there sorting the lines, you can ask to go through together. I dont know what happens when she goes through secondary to activate the visa. You might have to wait in the waiting area.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

Hi, Malis.

I had this same question and when I came back from visiting my husband in the Dominican Republic over Christmas/New Years, I asked the POE guy that checked my passport. He told me that if when my husband cameto the US, and I was traveling with him, we would both go through the citizen/resident line together. If he came over alone, then he would go through the visitor line. He also told me to make sure that the alien spouse brings their packet givento them by the embassy and to ensure that it is unopened.

This was in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida airport.

Good luck!

By the way, per the customs regulations in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida airport, you are NOT allowed to use cell phones during customs processing. You are to keep your phones turned off until completely through the customs processing.

Stay together. Have your evidence organized and your packet ready. When we went through POE, they actually had a couple (super basic) questions for us, and if we had been in different places, that could have been problematic.

I have always been told we are fine to go to either line - whichever is shorter. When we entered, I think we did the Visitor line and I just politely asked the officer when we got to his window if we were in the right place. He was very kind.

Congrats on the visa - and safe travels!
