MSNBC just interviewed a protester. He told the cameras that Hosni Mubarak has an ugly face and he wishes to never see him again. They then moved the camera over to Ron Allen who is an MSNBC reporter and Mr. Allen said that gentleman is a 25 year old and the emotion was just "oozing out of his face".

Me too. But I doubt it. I'm afraid gays and women could suffer the most.

You must have missed the composition of the protesting crowd - women were part of the protests. I also remember the story of Christians forming a protecting wall around praying Muslims and vice versa. Not sure why one needs to be so pessimistic about the future of Egypt?

Arabs are not animals or terrorists. We are human beings. We love freedom too.

Yay, Egypt!

I don't think thats going to happen frankly, but keeping my fingers crossed. I'd be happy with a clumsy, corrupt, flawed democracy over another Iranian style government.

....on a positive note, so far no one has taken the US embassy hostage yet.

You know, no one in the West ever thought that countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh would ever be able to sustain democracies. Pakistan has more or less failed at it, but Indian and Bangladeshi democracies just get better and better every generation. They started off clumsy, awkward, extremely imperfect, unfair with more than a smattering of stolen elections. But as one generation after another got used to the concept, saw it as "normal" and not some exotic western-style experiment, both democracies are now in much better shape than they were decades ago. Give the Egyptians time, they will figure it out. Hopefully they don't go the Pakistani route though.

Deeply profound.

Has anyone determined that a military coup is an improvement, or just a change?

In line with that, history shows that America was no democracy after its revolution either. After revolution comes evolution. Change takes time. I don't understand the pessimism either, but, thank God, this is about what Egyptian people want and about the latest dictatorship the west has lost.

My pessimism comes from what occurred after the Shah was overthrown and their recent "election"...if you want to call it that.

Your right, America was never a democracy, it was a republic

Did they want a military coup?

It IS a republic. Also, a democracy with a representative form of government. And, it's far from perfect.

Pessimism is at the core of some people's essence. Let's not let them ruin our optimism.

Ok Ok, I'm just waiting to see which column this revolution will end up on. Will it end up on the column with the Haitian Revolution, The American Revolution, the Treaty of Berwick etc. or will it end up on the other column with the French and Iranians (and maybe the Bolsheviks depending on how you view that particular part of history).
