It does not sound like he has much money.

And limited assets.

And with a short marriage anyway its not as if she is going to get a pay off.

Best bet is to come to an amicable settlement.

Still not clear if he has been asked to pay for the reception ( a lot of money btw) and if he has it to hand over anyway.

I married him becouse i thought he was my other half.

We had an agreement me to pay for the engagement reception, and he to pay for the wedding reception.I purchased my wedding gown, and when i got here my fatherinlaw didn't respect the agreement and say has no money for the wedding, while couple of months ago was making promises to pay for the wedding. So we didn;t had our curch and reception, becouse my husband told me i need to give more money for the wedding, wich i don't have.He was paying for the house bills while i was exchanging the last money to support myself waiting for the Gc.I asked him for 100$ to kill my time making hand made jewellery,he sayed no....but couple of days after we were invited by his cousin to a restaurant and the bill for each couple was 150$.

Being friends with exes is indeed American way :)

If you can not handle it though, then there are underlying issues in your relationship...

:( i am realy close to a nerve breakdown.

And you mentioned about kids,we were planning have kids after i finish my school in 2,3 years.

One day i had on the table some doctor results, ultrasounds(it was from the anual ceck up),and he thought i was pregnant, his face got white,he started to scream he dosen't want kids and talk about avortion.I was in a shock,i didn't had time to tell him that he missunderstud the results, becaouse he was talking all the time.I got in a shock to see his reaction, least i know how he would react to such news.:(

; I was reading your post and I am so sorry that you are going through this messed up situation.

He is such a douchebag, and you deserve waaaaaaaaaaay better than that!! So you spent 10k for the reception, and you want that money back so you want to go back to college.

But since he doesn't seem to have a lot of money, I don't see him paying you the money back..

Maybe the best option is for you to return to the US, find a job for now and save money. You can either use that money for hiring a laywer, or you can save that money for your college instead.

Karma is a ####### and he will face himself sooner or later, also his dad who didn't want to pay the wedding in first place. :bonk:

I truly hope you will find your way and know that we are here to give you mental support!!

Someone sad, I am not a rlship. counsellor and I know you are in great pain but you have to face reality. Its obvious your husband still cares for his X :bonk: . Try to pull yourself together and not to fall apart. Maybe he never really loved you in the first place. But whichever is the case, sorry for your pain. Think through how you will bring yourself out of this misery so as to move on, hopefully (F) .

No one can force your husband to repay you other than a judge. There are charitable groups that can help you with filing for divorce.

You have a green card so you can return to the US and begin the divorce process, find employment, and move on with your life.

You do not technically need an attorney to do your divorce. You can do it yourself, file yourself, and proceed from there.

If he is willing to give you a house and a car and a bike, then selling those things and giving you the money is the same thing.

So tell him to sell things and give you the money. Otherwise, it is a bluff on his part.

Wow, really? even if their exes cheated on them or so?

@ someone sad : I really understand your feeling because I used to stop my husband from talking to his ex who was in relationship with him for 7 years. Thanks God he listened to me and let the past go to start new life with me. I guess your husband still has some feelings for her because he still keeps her photos. visit her family and doesn't treat you good..blah blah.. I hate that kinda guy who thinks of his exes more than new ones and am always afraid of being overshadowed by exes. If he couldn't let it go, why would he marry you and then break your heart? He's totally wrong. I hope you will be able to get rid of him soon and finish your study. One day you will find a better man who at the end of the day, loves you the most.

i would like to add that i reveived messages thank you for all the good words.

Maybe beeing friends whit ex is the american way,but bringing your new wife over your ex gf's moms house, and allow your ex gf to call your wife "a s--t",i don't think that this has nothing to do whit the american way.I don't think i talked rude to that girl telling her just to stop texting him,i was shoked by her reply and her rude words.Especially when my husband didn't stand up for me.I think this is sick...especially when he calls her mom MOM and that woman calls him SON.I'm 100% for sure that they want him for a backup in case his exgf gets divorced.

I can't believe you all life get's destroyed from something like this,in couple of days...and from a man who dosen't know to be a man and stand up for his family.

I was never the jealous tipe of woman, and im sorry for that, becaouse i coulded see those pictures in his cellphone before our marriage and cancel everything.
