This video went through a lot of people before the approval and like me Im pretty sure they seen it as innocent. I find it funny that everyone wants to address this bogus racial intent but ignore the fact that this guy's character was betrayed as a spineless moron. If anything thats what I would of had a issue with.

so ... pepsi did a good job.

they get people watching the advert ... talking about it ... and keeping the name "pepsi" front and center over "coke"

To say they did a good job you need to prove that they had racial intent in mind which I dont think is the case. As far as effective yes it was very affective.

They would get people talking if the ad were a montage of pornography. Advertising is generally only "effective" if it results in good publicity and raised sales.

This doesn't really qualify as "effective".

Its a bit of a stereotype, if you interpret it that way.

True and one of the reasons African-American women are the least likely of

all American women to get married.

40+ percent of African-American women have never been married (versus

20 percent for white women.)

There are similar stereotypes in UK for Afro Caribbean men screwing around.

Don't know how I would interpret that ad really - the stereotype is quite well-known.

Still... it is only a TV ad. There are more important things to be concerned with. These kind of things make the news, not because the ad is actually offensive - but because some grandstanding self-promoter wants to draw attention to themselves.

THe lack of sense of humor is a real indicator of -how much progress we haven't made.... in many regards.

What are you suggesting, Blacks should never be cast in any role that could be viewed as negative because people might get the idea that Black folks might actually be capable of throwing a can of Pepsi or what ever?

If you are concerned that entertainment might be giving African Americans a bad image....... that commercial is barely on the scale compared to what is aired ... by blacks about Blacks on BET.

Coming from VJ's most prolific poster of stories involving black folks behaving badly this particular response from you is absolutely hilarious!

Race-ism is higher ism on the list of isms than sex-ism.

Just like we have a black president before we have a female president (and black men allowed to vote before white (or any) women) we'll have to address the race issue before we address the sex issue.

I'm still totally confused. I feel retarded. I seriously don't understand how this is racist.

It must be nice to be ignorant of racial issues in America. You truly are blessed.

I'm not being a smart@$$ either, I really wish I was one of those people that didn't have to deal with this on a daily basis.

To claim that there is a racism element to this video is far fetched. You would have better chances trying to prove sexism.

There is nothing racist here. I think what has everybody upset is the stereotype of the black woman or that it was a white jogger that fell victim to the can of pepsi. Regardless its ridiculous and leaders like Shelia need to quit it with this nonsense.
