I am the US citizen. I'm applying for my husband to immigrate over.

So far, I've turned in my Affidavit of Support and we'll be sending in the DS-230 in a couple of days.

A family emergency has occurred. How likely is it that my husband will not be allowed into the country at Newark Airport?

Do not send DS-230. NVC will close the case automatically after 1 year.

If you wish, you can inform NVC to close the case as well.

You mean on a visit by VWP? This is a very common topic about visiting while a petition is processing.

The answer is to be honest, and provide evidence of ties to home country.

I guess my other question is has anyone reported on these boards that they have been turned away (despite being honest and providing evidence of ties to home country)?

?? From what I understand the OP is asking about an emergency visit while close to final with immigrant visa processing, not about canceling the spouse visa.

Though yes could delay filing the DS-230 for a bit to avoid having spouse visa interview scheduled when visiting for the emergency.

Yes there have been cases of people being turned away, but with good ties to home country, these are rare, especially from the UK

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
