I've been in the U.S. since the beginning of December. We were married mid January. Can anyone tell me what income tax for I will personally need to fill out? Or should I just go to H&R Block or somesuch place to have it done?

And I'm assuming Tim can't claim me as a dependent until the following year, correct?

Canadians file a final return and theres a box somewhere to check off saying you left Canada.

My husband and I use H&R block for our taxes the first time we filed joint in the USA because it was too confusing for us having to claim my Canadian income etc. We also wanted the security of if something got messed up that it was their fault and they would correct it etc. Made things a lot less stressful for us. The only problem we had was the woman at H&R almost listed me as a citizen instead of legal resident! I corrected her right away before anything went tails up.

We will probably use H&R again this year because we have papers from our house and 1099 from savings certificates.

Well you probably can't walk into an American H&R Block to try and do your Cdn taxes :) There's a nice online program called Ufile which I used. You still cannot efile from the US, but you can go through and print it off to send by regular mail at the end. You can always do it by hand and mail it as well.
