this is what i got and based on the below it says to wait until you receive the NOA1 copy in the mail before checking the case status online, it has been a while since i got this but still the receipt number cannot be found on the uscis site. Should I make an InfoPass appointment to see why it is not showing up online? I have read that it is OK to not see the status etc etc but i don't feel comfortable for some reason.

"Your USCIS application/petition has been received and routed to the California Service Center for processing.

Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number

XXXXXXXXXXXXX With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit www.uscis.gov where you can check the status

of your application using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking

My Case Status."

I received exactly the same email.

I sent in the I-130 packet for my wife and stepdaughter on 1/10/2011 and got the I-797 about 1/16/2011 with an NOA1 of 1/12/2011. I'm in Seattle so the submission was routed to California. Neither of the receipt numbers gives anything on their website.

I was going to give it another month and then start calling them to see why it's not showing up. I took the view that it doesn't really matter if I'm in the queue at the lock-box or at the actual service center. I'm still in the queue whether I like it or not. I'm also wondering if the weather across the mid-west may have delayed the actual paper moving around. I was astounded that there really was paper involved. When I went for my naturalization interview a few years ago the USCIS woman had every scrap of paper my lawyer had ever filed. It was about 2" in front of her and she wasn't even a little surprised.

I'm not feeling overly uncomfortable as I've been through all this before, my route was via E-2, H-1B, then I-140/I-485 etc (with some advance parole and an EAD for good measure) and finally an N-400, all starting in '95. I still remember the horror I felt when my I-485 receipt said, "we'll get to this in the next 580 days". They beat that by a long way!

If you do find anything out, please post, as will I when I follow up.

Good luck

Alex.

You're fine, there are tons of post with the same problem. IIRC, there is a work around, read it a few days back.

Just posting an update.

I called a week or so back and was escalated to some 2nd line support. He said that the cases were just fine, other than just sitting in the queue.

Today the online status appeared. I'll bet that they were behind a bunch-o-TSC files getting logged in to the system ;-)
