My fiancé mailed me the packet of everything he filled out and signed about a month ago and it's STILL not here. I'm frustrated and would prefer not to wait god-knows-how-long for him to try to re-send it, are there any alternatives for getting his signature? Fax, scanned, etc.? Or does "original" literally mean that he had to have put a pen to that piece of paper?

Our Timeline:

April 2003: We "met" online through a mutual friend.

March/April 2004: He visited me in California and we hit it off, but didn't want to do a long-distance relationship.

July 7, 2009: We got back in touch with each other.

April 15, 2010: My previous relationship ended and we decided that he would come visit me again and see where things went.

May 25 2010: We saw each other again for the first time in six years!

June 23, 2010: We decided to try a relationship.

November 8, 2010: We got engaged!

January 3, 2011: I began to assemble the I-129F packet

March 14, 2011: Mailed out the I-129F packet

March 16, 2011: NOA-1

May 31, 2011: NOA-2

June 13, 2011: NVC received our approved I-129F

June 15, 2011: NVC approved the I-129F and sent it to London

July 1, 2011: He mailed the completed Packet 3 in

July 15: His medical exam

July 29: We called the consulate and got his interview date

September 6: His interview - approved!

September 25: He entered the U.S. with his visa

November 18: WE GOT MARRIED!

Theoretically is supposed to be the actual piece of paper he has signed. However, if they are going to examine a signature closely to see if it is a copy or not, I don't know. It depends on who you get to look at your petition, luck of the draw.

Original in the USCIS/NVC sense means actual pen on the paper they are looking at. I've heard forms are returned if the signatures are not original ones.

As an aside, still expecting a package from a month ago from the UK? At this stage I'd consider it lost. Have him mail another set, the sooner the better. He can have it registered. I know it cost like €6 from Ireland using the post office, nothing fancy like DHL or UPS.

My suggested alternative is to print the form with "Will Sign at Consulate" in the signature space. This only works for the G325a though, not the letter of intent or passport photo.

Just send it express and pay up the $$. I did that and it was worth it, the last thing you want is to delay your petition -there are enough delays out there! You'll get it in a week tops.

Thanks guys, I'll just have him re-send it, preferably express! It's not like the extra few quid mean very much when considering how much we're paying for all of this! ;) Thanks!

If you send it today the "lost" ones will arrive tomorrow. It always happens that way. I had the same concerns when my fiancee's signed forms didn't show up after 16 days so I asked her to resend. They arrived the following day.

You are talking about the petition? The G-325a does not have to be signed at all, by either of you, you can request he sign it at the interview. Fiancee letter of intent must be signed. I have a copy of the internal memo of USCIS describing the rules of the G-325a if you need a copy, PM me your email address. It is also around this site somewhere.

You DO need a passport type photo of him to submit. That can be emailed, printed and cut out.

the petition, form I-129f, which the US citizen signs, MUST be original signature

I even included pictures of us signing the forms and holding the forms just to truly send the message home that these are in fact the forms we signed together.
