Calif. Woman, 62, Gives Birth to Baby Boy

REDDING, Calif. - A 62-year-old woman gave birth Friday to a healthy 6-pound, 9-ounce baby boy, becoming one of the oldest women in the world to successfully bear a child.

Janise Wulf gave birth to her 12th child. She is also a grandmother of 20 and a great-grandmother of three.

Family members said the delivery went smoothly, despite earlier concerns about the mother's health. Wulf, a diabetic, experienced swelling and higher blood pressure earlier this week, prompting doctors to perform the Caesarean section a week early.

Wulf and her third husband, Scott, 48, named the red-haired boy Adam Charles Wulf. He follows just 3 1/2 years behind his older brother, Ian.

"I hate to raise one alone, without a sibling," said Wulf, who was impregnated both times through in vitro fertilization.

It's not just a matter of choosing to have another baby. Perhaps if she were meant to get pregnant by conventional means...she would have...perhaps her body was saying whoa, enough.

With the risks involved, in my opinion, invitro should be the last resort for women who have undergone other methods to conceive and who haven't been successful, not someone who wants to be a babymaker...

It's not just a matter of choosing to have another baby. Perhaps if she were meant to get pregnant by conventional means...she would have...perhaps her body was saying whoa, enough.

Abortion, when conducted in abortion clinics, do not occur naturally either.

Yet, in those cases, "her body, her choice" seems to be the argument of choice.

That's totally possible....say she has an offspring who is 42, a grand child who is 22, and a great grandchild that's 2.

Yeah, I just looked at it again and did some math and it worked out. Just seemed so young. My grandmother's 70 and still not a great-grandmother.

Personally, I figure that there's a reason a woman's body doesn't bear children after a certain age (whatever individual age that is), and that messing with that reason isn't necessarily good.

In these stories of women having kids at these ages, I always feel for the kids. I don't doubt that they can be good parents, but in perspective, the child could be facing the loss of said parent at age 12 or 13 (or younger even).
