This would work well in a village, but not in a large city.

Tommy who? You do not know even the people who live in your building with 100 apartments...

Or how about we hold our friends, family and neighbors accountable in our own communities? Why don't we require ourselves to be responsible citizens? How did America function before this "big business" law enforcement?

I'm personally of the opinion that we don't need it. It's just another case of throwing money at a problem we're too reluctant to deal with ourselves. "What? Tommy's beating up his wife again? I'd love to help, but American Idol's on."

Offer each jailed criminal a choice: remain in prison, or receive $10,000

This is a very interesting proposal. Since it costs, what, $90,000+ each year to jail someone, why not give them $90,000 a year instead? Do you think they'd still be a criminal or would they maybe just go on about their business? Perhaps they'd start a business!

Heck, according to some posters here, criminals cost this country too much. Since they're so in favor of paying for education, why not give criminals a college-grad-type salary and see what happens? Wouldn't we make money on it in the end?

How many people know their nextdoor neighbors now?

To really see what's going on in America we need to reestablish that sense of community that's been lost. 100 apartments in one building? Why do you NOT know all of those people - they're in the same place!

Your suggestions won't reduce crime, they only deal with the symptoms of it.....

You are against education? You think lack of education is a symptom of crime?

Explain why people in cities are inferior to people in villages.
