Back to topic... :P

I appreciate it when people post their timelines because I can check my advice against it, depending upon how much info is given by the OP in their question. If the question is vague and there is no timeline, I may be less inclined to spend the time sorting out the details to provide an accurate answer and pass it by. That's no big deal as there are plenty of others who might have the time to sort it out...

A timeline is not a requirement, but it is helpful for those who answer questions.

Tracking timelines, however, is a worthless exercise. But if people choose to spend their time on that sort of activity, that is also their choice...

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Timeline

Timeline Police does exist! Beware...

As some mentioned above, you don't have to fill out your timeline, but don't expect that your timeline would "HELP everyone"... Nobody needs your timeline. It is for your own good to fill one out, so when you are confused about this whole process, you can just shoot a question without having to explaining yourself, status, how far are you in the Journey, just skip it. People here are pretty smart, to some level, they can figure out where you are by looking at your timeline and be able to provide better and more relevent answer or advice specifically to your case.

So, No, by filling out your timeline, you do not help everyone but yourself.

OK, fill that timeline out already... HAHAHAHAHA  (yes, self-appointed TL Police is in the house) and no, not for post-count purpose. Just tell people to fill it out because I can :D

HAHAHAHA GOOD LUCK with your visa journey...

love

chuck and kim

How does it not help others? If someone wants to know how long it took another person from the same service center and consulate they can check ...if timelines are filled in. It helps others to find out when their case should be approved. And it helps people know what country and visa you are doing if you have a question.

Hello,

OP started this thread saying with clear intention to start a long @$$ thread on "to fill or not to fill out the timeline". I don't care if he does or not, most of the time it is in HIS own benefit to do so. OP may get better answer, more indepth with more context that relevent to his specific situation, in my experience with JV. If he doesn't, he may receive responses with a lot of assumption and guesstimate that may or may not relevant to his case. Either way, again, I still do not believe his TL will help EVERYONE, only the fews who are currently on the same boat as his, however, how the heck do you know if you are on the same boat if he doesn't have a TL. We can go around and around discussion the important of TL or the irrelevent of it. My vote: fill out your TL. If you are afraid someone on VJ will call your local office to report your case as FRAUDS because you may have given too much personal information about yourself on this board, my thought.... just stay off this board, be safe brother! It is a scary WWW. Google yourself yet? Try it... interesting information you may find...

On a lighter note: I do agree with Aussie, give your advice regardless of TL or No TL by making the best assumption and guesstimate when answer the individual's questions and requests. In the end, aren't we here to share our own experience of our VJ and not to be mistaken as THE AUTHORITATIVE FIGURE on Immigrantion laws/rules/guides. We each take each other's advice and suggestion at our own risk, you will be the final judge whether or not to take the advice given by VJ memebers.

Good luck with your journey...

After reading this thread I've decided that I won't answer anyone's questions if they do have a timeline. Just for balance. ;)

And I'm deleting my timeline in protest.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
