Whats up with the timeline police?

The problem I have besides listening to self appointed timeline police which I absolutly will not do... Is that in my opinion there is far to much personal information on individuals available on the internet anyway and I will not do anything to add to that.

People forget that USCIS is a law enforcemant agency, their purpose is to enforce immigration law, not to beningly process visa applications. Law enforcement loves data bases of their "clients." The timelines could be used by them a way to identify individuals.

Maybe I'm a little paranoid but I believe in my right of privacy and I wont put any information out there that might compromise my privacy.

When people ask simple questions like should they use N/A or none in filling out forms, for example, a timeline is absoultly no help in answering those types of questions...

If a question needs a bunch of personal information to be answered I'll find an immigration lawyer or someone I can trust to answer it for me on a non public forum.

If there was an option to simply add information to the timeline data annomously I would do that but I wont do it the way it is now...

So can I ask why the #### did you bother to join if you would rather get your information from a lawyer????

Good luck

Kezzie

That and since USCIS is a law enforcement agency.. when you send in the paperwork, I'm sure there is some $8.50/hr D.E. person just typing your stuff into that same DB that you refuse to enter stuff here on. /shrugs/ dont want name in their DB... dont marry anyone from outside the US then.

Oh, I'm paranoid and afraid others could maliciously use this data against me. By the way, it's ok for me to freeload and gather as much information as I need. I feel no absolute need to participate and who cares. It's my right to privacy.

That's the beginning part of my new book.

that seems just a little harsh, no?

Anywhooo, I DO think some people get a little too ####### about someone else's timeline. If they don't want to fill it out, who cares. If there really is any information that can be gleaned from knowing when a person was approved/filed/etc, when they ask a question, there are polite ways of saying, can you give a little more information so I can answer your question better, instead of just pounding out "fill in your timeline or I can't answer." *shrug*

Filling in your timeline = good karma. And we could all use whatever we can get in this process.

And you are right, it's not a requirement.

This is why in my first post I asked it there was a requirement to post a timeline before posting a question. If it was a requirement I would not have joined the forum thank you.

Kezzie, I have noticed from your posts that you hate lawyers which is fine but I was posting about the timeline police. You hate lawyers I hate timeline police :)

If the government wanted to find out who were and get your personal details...they would...and they wouldn't need your VJ timeline to do so....

NO! Karo, do you think the Government has access to that stuff or something? I mean, we are all completely independent and we just CHOOSE to let the government know our whereabouts, right?

What in the world would a government worker be doing spending hours analyzing the dates some poster on a forum submitted things and matching them up against data in their computer? Like any of us have unique timelines in the thousands in the USCIS line.

And what sorts of posts do people plan to make that would alert USCIS and cause them to use such investigative skills to police you? It seems a little paranoid, but I guess everyone has a right to be so if they wish!

Me, I like to see that false date at the bottom of my timeline, you know, the one that says I will be adjudicated in a week!

04/13/06 - I-129F mailed

04/18/06 - NOA1

08/30/06 - NOA2

09/26/06 - received at NVC

09/27/06 - forwarded to consulate

20/11/06 - visa in my pocket!

14/01/07 - POE

13/04/07 - marriage

27/04/07 docs sent in for AOS, EAD, AP

26/06/07 - biometrics appointment

02/17/07 - AP and EAD arrive

03/03/08 - Infopass - where the heck is my AOS interview?? No one knows!

On a practical level I'm not concerned about the government finding out anything about me they dont all ready know. Some people get the privacy argument some people dont. Its like some people walk in the rain some people use an umbrella.

But... say I happened to be one of the folks who has raised a big stink about IMBRA or something else, say someone at a service center got repremanded for a delay or a response to my call. What if that person was to come to VJ. ...from the timelines they could determine my identity, and in the forums they could probably read about what I had done to get that smuck...then say my file gets lost...hmmmm

Yep I paranoid :)
