I am going to the Philippines to get my fiancée soon, and I need a place to stay overnight while I wait for my flight out of Manila the next morning. Does anyone know the Baclaran area in Manila? I read recommendations from several people for the Mabuhay Manor, which is in that area on the corner of Ortigas St. and F.B. Harrison in Pasay. I am an American traveling alone, and I am just staying overnight until my flight in the morning, but I didn't want to stay in an area that is too risky. However, I also don't want to pay $100 extra to stay in a large hotel like the Manila Marriott if the neighborhood is no different. I read a lot of good reviews about Mabuhay Manor, but every reviewer, even the Filipinos, mentioned that it was in a bad area. I'm just wondering if that is all of Manila or just that neighborhood. Any advice is appreciated!

I forgot to add that while I appreciate everyone's suggestions, I really just need advice from people who have stayed at the Mabuhay Manor or know the Baclaran area. I've already done a lot of research and decided that I will stay at Mabuhay or the place I stayed last time; just trying to save a little money and add convenience b/c of their airport shuttle.

Thanks

F.B. Harrison is not a good neighborhood. Muggers, purse snatchers, pick pockets and druggies (for companions) in that area.

Sorry, I can't give any hotel suggestions for Baclaran.

We always stayed at Diamond Hotel. More expensive than most but that's how we roll. :P

Hello,

The neighborhood is not that bad compared to other places in Pasay, it's on a main road that vehicles usually passes on its way to the airport. You did mention that it's just an overnight thing, so this is a good choice.

Do you remember if the individual rooms are accessible from the outside streets? I think I am going to give Mabuhay Manor a try, but I just want to make sure it's not in a location where people can easily break in your room. Most motels I stay at have all of the rooms inside so that you have to go through the front door to access them. It looks like in this one, you can get to an individual room without the guards ever seeing you.

Thanks for the response!

Mabuhay Manor Hotel is a 5 star customer satisfaction rate for me.. This is where we held our wedding and the people there were very wonderful, this is where we stayed on our first night together.

Rate is very reasonable for me.

Customer service is excellent. They went out of their way to cater our needs. On our wedding package that we bought prior on my hubby's arrival, we get to have 1 night free of stay in their honeymoon suite, which is what we used on our first night together.

Location: Is very convenient as the malls and SLEX and USEm are just few minutes away.

Person to contact: Look for Ms. Jenny (if she's still there, and you can mention my last name (Mrs. Miller) so she'd be delighted to help y'all if you decided to come.)

I hope this helps!

Been so busy with the wedding that I'm just now getting a chance to post my review. I stayed at Mabuhay when I went to get my fiancee (now wife). Overall, I'd say it's not bad for an overnight stay. The staff were friendly, had a nice free bfast, and the location is very close to the airport so you can catch your flight in the morning. The airport pick-up is free, and you can pay 250PHP to have them drop you off the next morning. The thing I didn't like was that it was kinda noisy in the room (I guess people were at the swimming pool during the night) and the beds were very hard. I can't complain, though, because of the low price and since it was only for one night. I also didn't like the fact that the only lock on the door was a chain. Most motels have a regular lock in addition to the chain. Not a big deal except that the rooms are accessible from the outside, so if you're willing to pay the extra money to stay at a hotel that has rooms inside the building like the Marriott, it might be a better choice. Just depends on your preference.
