Because far too many people are under the illusion that they still can become very wealthy. That is why someone who makes $40K per year habitually votes republican, despite their own self interests.

Yes, people are going to pool their money together to slander corporations. Are you sane? Seriously.

Never said that. Again you are making ####### up.whistling.gif

They're not sheep for the rich, they for the most part just hate the poor. It's a deep seated cultural phenomenon, where a grown man who only makes $40,000 a year resents paying his taxes (and he doesn't pay much at that salary) because he imagines the money going to shiftless and lazy poor people on welfare and food stamps. It's not so much a love for the wealthy as it is an imagined 'common cause' with the wealthy against the poor.

I think it is also a fantasy to be wealthy. It is a serious bias to any survey or research that involves polls.

As you want it, then a group of citizens can band together and pool their money to demonize a corporation as they deem fit and can say anything whether it is wrong or not. The corporation is not allowed to then spend their money to refute what is said.

Corporations 'refute' citizens all the time through a little device known to us as advertising. Also, see lobbying.

Really? Because here it looks like you actually did say that. Whose making sh!t up now?

I am OK with corporations being allowed to have the same freedoms that we all have as citizens. There is a freedom of speech in this country and that is what the surpreme court ruled it as. I think corporations should be allowed to spend money to defend themselves to the public. As you want it, then a group of citizens can band together and pool their money to demonize a corporation as they deem fit and can say anything whether it is wrong or not. The corporation is not allowed to then spend their money to refute what is said. Now in politics a politician can run for office saying he is going to tax a certain corporation and demonize the same. He can say anything no matter how outrageous. The potential voters will hear all this demonizing and with no advocate on the other side and tend to believe and vote against the interests of that corporation. I think that corporation should be allowed to then spend money to refute the charges being made against them. On a further note they also limit the campaign contributions that can be made by corporations and citizens. I don't want limits on what I want to contribute to any campaign but if I don't want limits on mine own then I also don't want limits on any entity.

I think there is also a racist element to it. Higer percentage of minorities tend to be poor. I am not saying that all who hate the poor are racist, but there is a subset of people who disguise their racisim as "I dont want my tax dollars to go to some guy in a ghetto who drives a caddy with shiny rims".

I am using EXAMPLES of how they should be allowed to use their money. I could use a personal example of when I was working as a Chemist at a Chalmette, La refinery where a group of citizens banded together and pooled their money to try to force the refinery to pay them a yearly stipend because they were forced to live in the refineries shadow. Many of the things they said were untrue. They almost pulled it off but by having local laws made. It took lawsuits to get it settled and the citizens failed. They even tried to sue afterwards to recover the money they spent and lost that.

Now I can sit here all day and keep posting examples of why corporations should be allowed to exercise their freedom of speech but a couple should be good enough. If corporations are not allowed to have the same freedoms as us then why should we be allowed?

quietly funneling tens of millions of dollars

How much did Oprah funnel to Obama?

What about Bloomberg?

Two hundred and thirty-six years ago, Paul Revere rallied the American public's resistance to the democratic repression with the cry, "The British are coming!" Today, the rallying cry is, "The Kochs are coming!" To join the resistance, go to www.freespeechforpeople.org.

Paul Revere was British. Why would he say, "the British are coming?"

Nope

So lets get this straight most conservatives are bigots that hate poor people? I see you and Nina dont have a clue when it comes to these things.

I have heard enough conservatives whine about tax dollars going to welfare recipients to talk in black dialects to know racism is a big part of it.

Of course, had the poor all been white I still think you guys would have a problem with it. I do believe the basic issue is the issue of helping others. You don't want to and we do.

First of all, I call bullsh!t. You said that you didn't say it, you did. Secondly, your example as you put it is a pathetic one as AJ pointed out. See most intelligent people in that example you gave would have either gone to their union, or formed one. Despite what Beck and whatever talking head you worship tells you, unions aren't these evil groups set to perpetuate voter fraud and socialist propaganda.

It's a clear and concise statement Danno. If you can't understand it, that's your problem.

I am a firm believer, that when you see someone that is down and out, you pick them up, dust them off, kick them in the butt, and send them down the road. The problem is, it is hard to distinguish between the truly needy, and the folks that have made panhandling a profession, especially when you see the same young, white, and able hippies, standing there, day after day, for the last six months, with the sign that says, "Travelling, need gas."
