Hello VJ Members!

My fiancee and I have been waiting for our NOA2 for 4 months now. It should be here any time now. We are both very excited ! After my fiancee arrived and we get married we would like to travel to Europe. Will Elena need to use her Ukraine passport? If so she will need a visa to travel. Can we apply for the Schengen visa in the United States. Has anyone had experience with this?

Thank You!

When your fiancee arrives and you marry, you will then apply for AOS and with this application you will include EAD (working permit if needed) and AP (advance parole) . You new wife will not be able to travel anywhere till she gets that AP in her hands. AOS can take 3-4 months but after you have Biometrics taken usually AP arrives within a few weeks. On the other hand some get their Green Card before AP, But the answer is she can't travel untill she has one of those documents in her hand.

Yes she can use her own passport to travel and if still in her maiden name you will just have to carry marriage certificate with you as AP or GC will be in her married name. Hope this helps and hope you get your NOA2 soon.

It depends on how urgent the trip is. You guys should apply for AOS (or at least AP) as soon as possible after getting married. If you apply for AP (travel document) and EAD (work authorization) together with AOS (adjustment of status, green card), the fee for the first 2 forms is waived. It usually takes around 3 months for AP to be processed, approved and in your mailbox, but Elena should NOT leave the country without the AP (or GC, whichever comes first). Best of luck!

As has been said, it's not a good idea to travel until you have AP or a Green card. If you do, you spouse will not be able to re-enter the country and you will be waiting for a CR-1 visa, starting the process over again.

To answer your other questions, she will have to travel on her Ukraine passport. 3 years after marriage, she can become a US citizen and get a US passport. A green card is an internal document that is only recognized by the US, not as a travel document in other countries. So she will need a visa to travel to most countries that require a visa for Ukrainian citizens. A few countries (Canada, for one) allow Green card holders to enter without a visa regardless of citizenship. I don't believe this applies to any European countries. However, Green Card holders are pretty much a shoe-in for receiving a Schengen visa. You should be able to apply for one without leaving the US.

Better honeymoon in Vegas because you're not going abroad until after that AP.

One option you may want to look at is traveling Europe BEFORE she gets here. That way you guys can enjoy your trip and then come on over here to get down to business. If you wait until after her arrival, as others have said, you're looking at several months before AP and/or GC.

SMR gave you all the correct information. The wife and I did this two years ago. We got her Shengen visa at the French consulate in Miami. It did require a personal visit.

My homeboy went to that gun store and did a little full-auto fire. Said it was cool but way too pricey.

Marriage has nothing at all to do with her travel abilities. Her GREEN CARD will make a difference.

It is very difficult for a Ukrainian to get a Shengen visa, for example, but easy if she is a US permanent resident. YES she will still travel with her Ukrainian passport.

Get married, file for the AOS, get her green card and then you can file for visas as a Ukraine citizen/US permanent resident.

The green card ALONE will allow her to travel to Canada, Mexico and Carribean islands. Alla goes to Canada often and uses nothing but her green card. If she were to FLY to Canada she would also need her passport, but no visa is needed.

I love to shoot stuff! I used to own a Tommy gun, great fun but it ate through money real fast!

If you are of a mind to do so, check out the National Machine Gun Shoot at the Knob Creek Gun Range just south of Louisville, KY the 2nd Sunday of April and October every year. Awesome! You can take a turn shooting all kinds of legally owned machine guns, flame throwers, artillery and other extreme toys. :wow:

Be advised, the AP is a permit to re-enter the US. It is NOT permission to enter ANY other country.

Alla got her AP just a few days before her green card arrived. We opened the mail, and jumped in the car for a shopping spree in Montreal. We hit the Canadian border 10 minutes later and were promptly turned away (very politely of course) and invited to return when her green card finally arrived.

With an AP she would be allowed to travel ONLY where a Ukrainian can travel with her passport only.

I'm not an expert on automatic weapons and I realize these weapons, the range, the personnel, the insurance, and the ammunition are expensive. However, when I saw the prices I, too, thought they were a little high. I guess $200 to shoot a Tommy gun isn't ridiculous, but they don't even give you 1 whole magazine. I know some of these bullets cost $1 or more a piece, but I think it would feel like a better deal if they raised the prices $50 or so and gave you a couple magazines to play with. If I'm firing a tommy gun, I don't want to feel like I have to fire it on semi-auto to conserve ammo.
