is the age gap will be a problem during interview for K1 petition? I am 24 and my fiancee is 57 i dont mind about our age gap i know to my self how i feel to him and how much i love him and he feel the same way too so our age gap wont bothering us specially our relationship...

My question is, when it comes to the CO interview they will ask about it or not? thank u in advance good luck to all

Hi Roseles,

Age gap was not a problem for me, and my wife is a USC. We have a little less of a gap than you folks.

Good Luck! :)

There have been many out here on VJ that has commented on this issue. While “age gap” it’s not a known policy issue, many factors could contribute to the success or provide questionable thoughts. Normally, as I have read others state, in the Philippines this is not uncommon. However, the CO will be looking at the entire picture. If you have a really nice organized visa packet, along with solid evidence of the relationship and you can answer questions promptly, then more than likely you will be fine. If I had to speculate the CO’s thoughts one of the areas I would deem very important, particularly in your case, is the AOS. Meaning, that if your finance has a stable income, and can show this stability for the past three years, this should eliminate a concern about you becoming a public charge for the future. This along with evidence of a strong relationship should allow for a smooth interview. My wife is from the Philippines and we have an “age gap” with no encountered problems.

I agree with you in that the "age gap" issue can be very culturally and consulate specific. In Manila, there apparently is more acceptance of an age gap, in particular if the male is the petitioner who is older and the female beneficiary is the younger in the mix. Having said this, I think it is very important to acknowledge the sexism that exists in about ALL consulates; if the female petitioner is the older person, then the "age gap" issue REALLY becomes a problem. For those in this situation it will become particular important to provide EVIDENCE to demonstrate the bona fide nature of the relationship as it will be further questioned and scrutinized as a result of the world's sexist views.

Aztec&amp, it would be disheartening to know or to discover that any bias would enter into the realm of immigration, much less any other avenue of life. With this being said, as you have stated, you would have to look at the cultural aspect of the Philippines and the U.S among other countries. Without attempting to explain the psyche involved in this phenomenon, in the majority of cases the male is older than the female. I personally cannot tell you if this is a case where as it is more acceptable within these social groups or some other logical reason explains the hypothesis. Without having studied a controlled social group, I would dare guess that men seeking a relationship with a women (20) years his senior, would mostly likely falter in a higher average than those in the opposite scenario. I’m not sure altogether if this is true or why this would be the nature of things. Outside of this speculation, I’m sure we would or will hear of any prejudice that would take place should such an event ever occur. Most people on VJ are very open regarding their victories or tribulations. In summary, I’m not sure how many cases may be determined as inequality or it’s just the natural world evolving. Let’s hope everyone gets a fair process no matter the situation.

In other consulates this raises many eyebrows if it is the reverse. I have many friends from middle east and it almost always comes with scrutiny. I wish you the best and just be honest on all questions and bring an adequate amount of evidence and you should do just fine. If the woman is older they see it a little different but that is nothing new.

I have seen it from both sides and different countries. Try not to worry about it too much and focus on getting everything in order and ready for the upcoming interview. :)

What about going the other way? Man younger by 15? Any ideas?

For some consulates this causes a more intense review, they like to think How could a younger man love an older woman. Go into an interview with your head held high and be completely honest and confident. Many couples have succeeded with this process no matter how it might look to "others". No one here knows the outcome and I wish you the best. I do have friends with this kind of age difference and they did get their visa but it took a little more time and a lot more stress. Glad to say they are together and happy now. Just be confident and positive. :)
