Educated, healthy illegal kids are better for the nation in the long-term, before and after they leave. But most forms of welfare? E-verify that.

The problem is that everything we provide free & easy for them is just additional incentive for them to come/stay here.

Not if you properly enforce E-Verify and secure the borders without entertaining notions of psychoses in shooting mostly unarmed people. [/sic]

Lets keep it in context. We can be firm and fair at the same time without sacrificing any idea of doing 'the right thing.'

So because they don't care to "do the right thing" we should feel obligated to give them a free education, healthcare, groceries & housing?

FWIW, my definition of fair is that you get what you deserve based on what you contribute. My kids are entitled to the public schools because I pay taxes. Same for the other benefits that my family way utilize.

My kids are entitled to public school too. I would guess people who never had kids don't neccessarily think that's fair.

Unless they accept that the next generation of Americans hold the key to the future of our country in which case they understand that investing in their education is investing in the future of the country as a whole.

If we reduce the class sizes by eliminating students who aren't here legally (and eliminating the drop a baby in our dirt, it's a US Citizen loophole) then maybe our educational system will get better.

Aliens can be here legally and not be work authorized - especially children. E-Verify checks to see if a person is work authorized, not a "legal alien".

Likewise, aliens can be "work authorized" but not be entitled to welfare benefits. Such as aliens sponsored by a US citizen via the I864 contract.

Keep in mind we're talking about children.

If you base, BTW, your definition of fair based on tax contributions, you may as well consider that, false identities or not, the employed parents of illegal children are also contributing to the tax pot. Like I said, context.

Unless they accept that the next generation of Americans hold the key to the future of our country in which case they understand that investing in their education is investing in the future of the country as a whole.

The only way you can proactively reduce a class size is by reducing it; not by preventing future students from attending class.

Indeed. We address the employment argument that illegals massively take all available American jobs. Poor Americans.

';INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Rigoberto Damain was just 6-years-old when he came to the United States, and has no memory of living or going to school in his native Mexico. But now the 28-year-old father of three American children is facing deportation from the only country he's ever known.

Damain was brought to the U.S. illegally as a child, but his immigration status was revealed during a traffic stop three years ago. On Friday, Damain picked up his final paperwork from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"The order of departure that I basically have to leave the country," said Damain. "Well it's pretty tough, leaving 3 kids and a wife. I mean especially a newborn that's only 5-months-old."

An immigration judge ruled in a 15-page report that Damain should be allowed to stay in the U.S., but the Department of Homeland Security appealed the ruling and won, and Damain will board a bus for Mexico early Saturday morning. On Friday, he worked his final day at the grocery store he worked at for 70 hours a week. Even on his last day in the U.S., he says that he didn't want to burn any bridges.

"They wished me good luck," said Damain.

Immigration attorney Angela Williams says that Damain would have a long road to travel before he would be allowed to stay in the U.S.

"In order to become legal in the U.S. you have to have a petitioner," said Williams. "He's got a brother who's going to soon be a U.S. citizen, but the wait in that category is over 20 years."

Williams says that Damain's best hope for returning to the U.S. won't come until his 8-year-old daughter turns 21, when she can legally petition for her father to return home.

Damain says that he was in the process of buying a house. His American daughters have a hard time understanding why their father has to leave.

"I can't believe after being here 22 years, they're cutting my family in half," said Damain.

I know a few people right here on VJ who would rather keep the money. I'm not trying to say which viewpoint is more valid, I'm sure everyone feels their own is. I had no problem paying taxes even when I was here on a work visa with the intent to return to Canada. I don't expect that the government can be king Solomon. Someone is going to end up with the short end of the stick.

It may, there are bigger problems than class size to be sure.

You said before that you think it's fair to get benefits based on what you contribute. So what about illegal aliens who pay taxes? What about kids whose parents are on welfare? Any exceptions to the rule?

I agree. It's too easy too look at it nationalistically, and by doing so, one can miss part of the bigger picture.

Students here on F1 Student Visa's pay taxes.

And they have to pay fees as well.

How do you live in the US legally or illegally and not pay taxes?

I suppose the only way would be to be paid under the table. And we could surmise then, that many Americans that are often paid in tips under-report their tip income to the IRS.
