I had applied at the State Police in July, had an interview and was rejected for a job.

In the meantime I managed to get a job working for Health & Welfare through a temp agency.

Imagine my surprise when today after I got home from work my son said the Police called, a woman on the other end told my son she had interviewed me once before and asked him to have me call her after 7 am tomorrow.

Think they might be reconsidering me?

I would look at that, sometimes they liked what they saw at the prior interview and something came up and want to consider you again.

A state job like that is much much better than working for a temp agency.

I would contact the quickly!

Good luck!

I called the woman back and she had a "conditional" job offer for me. HR is sending me an application package to fill out. After that it's fingerprinting, polygraph; credit, criminal background and reference checks.

Ok this job is only part time mornings. I was told before that of the 4 part time positions, they are looking at making two into full time next year. Has to pass through Legislature in the State for funding first.

I really want the job as this is what I'm interested in despite it being part time whereas I'm working full time through the temp agency now. I was told however that the process for the police job will take about two months (yikes!) so in the meantime I would continue with my job through the temp agency.

The headquarters for State Police is just a 15 minute drive away; I'm driving 1/2 hour now for the current job.

Working in a police environment has always been an interest for me plus there always opportunities in future within the department.

Cdnwmn,

good luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and which state are you in ? I was looking at the police jobs in Virginia and they required citizenship.

I'm in Idaho. I have a friend in Georgia who wanted to apply to be a police dispatcher. She told me she had to be a citizen first.

Grrr, don't even get me started on having to be a citizen to get into a law enforcement position. Derek and I are in Virginia too and he had the most frustrating time finding a decent paying position that didn't require US citizenship (he's Canadian). Even the college campus police in VA, DC and MD need to be citizens, sigh. After a few months doing private security for a horrible company, he finally landed a job at the Canadian Embassy. Guess he has the right citizenship for that  Actually, he finds it amusing that despite his efforts to get a goverment job back in Canada, he finally landed one here in the US.

In any case congrats and good luck Cdnwmn!

Just to clarify for the police jobs here in this state. Legal permanent residents can gain a "civilian" job within the police departments however to be a Police Officer, you still need to be a citizen. If all goes well, I should be working in the Sex Offender Registry. Hmmmm should be interesting.

I think it's the same here in northern VA. Derek actually got an interview with one of local police departments but it was basically a "meter maid" position so he declined. I was just suprised that even the local college campus police in the area are required to be citizens. Of course a lot of security/law enforcement jobs near DC require citizenship because they are government buildings.

Good luck!
