My wife is Japanese and she has my last name listed as an alias on her passport (this is allowed in Japan). For example, if my last name is "ZZZZ", her first name is "XXXX", and her last name is "YYYY", then the name on her passport is XXXX YYYY (ZZZZ). When filling out the I-130, can I list the alias as her last name? First - XXXX, Middle - YYYY, Last - ZZZZ. There is no middle name in Japan, so I think this way is OK, but I'd like to hear from someone who has experienced this. Thanks!

Yes, sure. Fill out the immigration forms with the name she'll be using when she gets the visa. She can either change the name in the passport or since it's there already, leave it as it is. Sounds like they are acknowledging the marriage in the passport without actually "changing" her name.

Well, the problem is that there is no middle name in Japan. Her last name on the passport would be YYYY (ZZZZ). So, the question is whether or not her original last name (YYYY) can be put in the middle name space on the I-130.

Yes, you can put her maiden family name as her middle name on the I-130. It's quite common.

Even though legally, in Japan, it's still her official last name? My last name is just an alias.

To further clarify, only her Japanese passport will be updated with my last name as an alias. All of her other things (drivers license, bank accounts, etc) will still have her original name.

Yes, really, same answer. It's OK.
