When we went through the K-1 process a few years back, we edited some content from the chat logs, it wasn't an issue at the interview.

We didnt use chat that much..mostly skype so all I had on the logs was time, date, and length of call. I would only edit out personal stuff from the chat log though. I know how chat logs can get really long. in 4 months I was deployed between the calls and chats on skype I started out with over 20 pages of information...by the time I cut it down we had like 9 pages.

Edit as much as you want, but one thing in mind that, they WILL never take those logs as serious evidences not to say they will not even count it as an existing evidence. Chat logs are not strong evidence. Who knows if you lie through your teeth after "editing" some of the chat log?

A "chat log" would be a list of dates and times for your chats, so really nothing to edit except if you want to skip some time. I think what you're asking about is examples of actual chat sections. I recommend selecting chats that don't need editing. You wouldn't be the first here to be asked for the original text because the Consular officer suspected you edited out discussion of how you would commit immigration fraud.

I recommend enough "chat logs" (usually screen shots of a list of chat times and dates) to show how and how frequently you communicate, spread over the length of available time. You can supplement the logs with some example pages of chats.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Chat transcripts carry almost no weight, and that's being generous. Even a 5 year old could edit them, and the embasy people know this

You need solid evidence, boarding passes, photographs, bills and bank statements that show you're travel, and up to date letters of intented. By all means add transcripts in addition, but they have to be considered minor parts of your evidence

what i did is print screen the chat archives by dates, this is better than copying chat to ms word and edit.

oh we didn't think of doing the print screens.... thanks for the responses guys.. we appreciate it. i guess the same goes for email logs...

we have like 700 pages of chat logs in YM. sigh...

When I first filed for a K-1 visa, I saved all the Yahoo Messenger chat we'd had as a text document. We have been using words like husband, wife, and marry throughout our chats. I had to edit and replace with fiance, fiancee, and engaged as necessary in order not to raise any doubts about the level of our relationship at he consulate. It was quite easy to edit, but before we could present our chats at he interview, we were denied for another reason. However, it is still important to carry along as evidence, as you never know! Also, I've heard printscreens could work as well.

I didn't edit a thing. I didn't include any emails where we were talking about sex and stuff....but included everything else, all that lovey dovey stuff since we wanted to show that we had a real relationship and in one where we loved each other and talked about our future together.

Don't bother, you are wasting paper! Just bring some samples, and also call logs/chat logs are much better. You can print them out and it won't be as time-consuming as reading all your chats. :) If you talk on skype you can use skypelogview to get the call logs :) We had 100 pages of call logs from skype and verizon and they didn't even look at it.

I just printed out the Yahoo Chat Archives, dated from the first day we met until current. His & my screen ID's not our legal names. So to prove it was us, I took screen shots/ pics of us on webcam with our PM boxes up. I keep a monthly copies (x3 = his, mine & uscis) of our chat archives for records. This saved a load of paper and it's secondary proof of relationship anyway, but great for supporting evidence.
