I didn't go to college. When I use the services of someone who has a college education I compensate them for it. I don't expect them to seek money from the government on my behalf, much in the same way I wouldn't expect the government to pay for their education. If they want an education they should pay for it.

Not my case, a case.

Who is a paroled criminal? And how do paroled criminals in Ohio cost you money in California? What other resources am I sucking up?

So you're just going to double down on the stupid huh?

But you went to school K-12, right? Was it a public school? Did you pay for it? Pay for your own textbooks? Did you compensate your teachers who were very likely educated at a state university?

And do you only drive on toll roads? Toll bridges?

Something tells me aren't exactly paying directly for all the public services you use so I wouldn't get too self righteous about "paying" for others. I doubt very much that has happened anyway.

And I vigorously agree with everything Gary has written. I think I need to go lie down.

Why is it stupid to say, "if you're not paying for something... someone else is." Does that not make sense to anyone?

I was required to go to K-12. I didn't opt to go, I had to go.

And do you only drive on toll roads? Toll bridges?

I don't receive a tax break for only driving on certain roads.

I never claimed to pay for all the public services I use. There's no way I could. Nobody in America can.

- And that's the whole problem. It doesn't add up.

You can't receive "more" money from the government than you pay. If you do, you're using other peoples' money. Simply put, we ALL use more than we pay. The Fed actually gives us a great deal for what we pay. We pay pennies and receive a great amount. Yet, someday, that's going to catch up with us. ALL of us. If you guys think that's stupid I have to agree with you.

It is.

And weren't you in the military? Who paid for the that?

People get a tax break on money they have earned, slim. It is not "your" money - that is theirs. The government sees fit to let them keep more because they are doing something that is socially useful. I doubt very much when you go to the doctor to get a flu jab you are paying him back the $250k+ he invested in his medical education....yet that same doctor probably benefited in some way from the public purse and that is good for you since it prevents you from getting ill and good for the people near you so you don't go spreading disease.

I am pretty confident the taxes I pay now cover whatever I "mooched" off the system way back when.

Our military is disproportionately larger than our actual need. In a way, the military is another government program that provides young underachievers with the ability to earn some money and get an education. That this very large military also allows our civilian leaders to poke their noses all over the world is a very nice bonus. No wonder no one wants to do anything about it. The elites get the ability to interfere all over the world and the backwoods tards get what they would never get in the real world - a paycheck.

Slim, you're on parole, or whatever it is your state calls it. This is a program that we are forced to pay for through taxes for criminals like you. Thanks, I want a refund.

that large military is also required for supporting the many defense treaties we have. perhaps we should withdraw from those treaties?

Slim, the government isn't paying for any of the education here. I get a tax credit for money that I pay.

But it is ridiculous that the tax code is being used to manipulate society (they never use it to manipulate employers NOT to hire illegals though  )

As I said, lets just implement the FAIR TAX and be done with it. No deductions, no credits, no tax returns...juts taxes to raise revenue, which is supposed to be the purpose anyway, and everyone pays the same RATE of tax

I did.

Believe it or not, the military is a job. While you're in the service, you're actually working.... and paying taxes!

People get a tax break on money they have earned, slim. It is not "your" money - that is theirs. The government sees fit to let them keep more because they are doing something that is socially useful.

So let me get this straight.... people don't pay for something themselves and the government gives them money for it. Who's money is that?

I doubt very much when you go to the doctor to get a flu jab you are paying him back the $250k+ he invested in his medical education....yet that same doctor probably benefited in some way from the public purse and that is good for you since it prevents you from getting ill and good for the people near you so you don't go spreading disease.

If I use a good or service I expect to pay for it. If someone has specialized training and requires me to pay more for it, then I must pay more. I fully expect them to pass on the cost of their training. That's how business works.

I am pretty confident the taxes I pay now cover whatever I "mooched" off the system way back when.

Good for you. Does that make it right?

The key word in that statement there is EARN.

The military doesn't get a break, they earn their education.

Forced? I thought you were a voter?

Also, if you're so worried about it, why not try to make the system a little more efficient? I can tell you, as someone who's seen it from the inside, it's a horribly inefficient system that's largely a waste of money.

I get a tax credit for money that I pay.

So if you pay less... who's making up for that?

Yay for making opportunities for yourself!

Yet another farce of our culture. "Without education you're selling yourself short." Really? Tell that to the kids I graduated high school with who now make less money than me AFTER they went to college. Oh, and don't forget, they're still paying student loans.

Absolutely. I have paid off the investment more than tenfold in higher taxes from higher earnings as a result of going to college. I've been directly responsible for creating jobs by growing a business.

It's like the old adage in business - you have to spend money to earn money.

I believe it's my tax dollars that pay those wages.

OMG did you actually pull yourself up by your bootstraps and go to school when you could have joined the Army? Did you go learn a thing or two in college thereby being able to better yourself and eventually make the lives of others better?

I didn't know you could do that! I thought you had to enlist to make a contribution to society!

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.
