I want to know the same thing actually...do you have to show that you have the income you make from your job times 3 in your account.....I need to know because I make Well over the poverty line, BUT, I also have a lot of medical bills and school bills that I am paying for monthly that leaves me almost living paycheck to paycheck...so will my low account balance mean I need to get a cosponsor???

If you make significantly over the required income level they don't even care if you have a bank account and they don't look at your bills. They expect you to be mature enough to put spending in priority order. Family first then toys.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Hm, I did not know that Medical and School Bills were Toys! hahah, learn something new everyday!

Im being serious with this question...If I make more than 125% required, do I need to have that amount times 3 in an account...or do I need to look into getting a cosponsor?

As said before

Bills and low bank account. DO NOT MATTER.

CURRENT INCOME - this is what matters. If you make above the I-864 poverty guideline it is fine.

read this: http://www.visajourney.com/content/support

it says that when your income is lower than the one required - last year it was $18,212 for a household of two, you can make up for it with savings in your bank account, but it needs to be 3 times the difference. and, as you can see in the VJ guide, if you use assets, then it should be 5 times the difference. however, do note: "In general, if you are deficient on yearly income for sponsorship and your assets are somewhat borderline, do not take chances--have a co-sponsor. If you do not have a job or a steady income from other sources (such as retirement income), you will likely have to get a co-sponsor for your spouse, even if your assets are adequate. The USCIS looks VERY CLOSELY at current income and not just the assets."

For a K-1 visa it is the consulate that reviews the I-134... So what the USCIS does is irrelevant..

moving thread to:

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.

YMMV
