I know mod'ing would sort stuff, but do you feel this would be a tedious if not impossible job (sorting the split regionals) and cause more fragmentation?

Yes, splitting the regionals I think is a bad idea. The regionals are a great idea as they stand and may be among the best ideas of this forum so letting people know or steering them there is a great idea. The site here helped me to do the petition and all but the sub forum I go to always was a God send.

Now you are talking. If Sof can be considered a great choice then why not?

Yep, I popped in because I do indeed want to make changes that help the site. I doubt everyone will agree with all changes (or non changes) but I do want to cut to the best answer without the "noise" if possible :).

Seriously though, I think some good suggestions may come out of this like advertising or placing the regional forums to the membership as they are kind of hidden.

I notice some regional forums are used a lot and some very little. It is just an idea that maybe the lesser used forums may start getting noticed by the ones filing there and get more play in them also. My main regional and a few others are a huge help as we are able to get the more specific help for the consulates needed from ones that came before.

But then again it may be the lesser used ones may never get used as there are very few here that need them. Just because I was helped a lot in the one I am at doesn't mean that the same kind of help will help others.

South Asia is an example of a regional forum that isn't used much. I have no explanation for that given that there are lots of South Asians who immigrate here and there are lots on this site. I can't explain it.

Yes. Vietnam used to be there and it was split off as we were the only ones pretty much using it and swamping the very few that came there for the other parts of South Asia. Vietnam is a well used regional forum and it was a great idea to split it. I have also noticed that some other regional forums are rarely used. I see many from Morocco on the site and many have probs there I see from the consulate part but very few use the sub regional for that and was wondering why. It seems like it would be a great resource for them. They seem scattered.

It would be good if there was a way to try and corral many to regionals and start using them also. If many are one place and the ones that went through before can help the newbies going through that region. It helped me a lot in the Vietnam forum and I try to go there daily and help out the ones that are going through now.

My wife interviewed for her K1 in Mumbai, India (South Asia). I don't believe there were regional forums back then. I got the consulate-specific information I needed from the consulate itself - they had a great website and a lady who always responded to every email, however stupid or silly. I ended up using VJ for material that wasn't consulate specific.

I would really appreciate Australia and NZ removed from "Asia: East & Pacific" possibly to have it's own "Aus & NZ" regional forum. I honestly didn't even think to look there when I first found this site (years before I actually joined).. I just don't see Asia and think Australia. In fact those consulates aren't handled anything like the other "Asia" countries (that I've seen) so if you're doing updated that would be great.. plus I've found I see a lot more Aussies than I used to so centralised info on Aus and NZ (general news and well as immigration posts) would be great :)

And I have seen many from India using this forum and also even a few for that consulate. It would be great if that regional was used more and had people like you and others who went there to help the ones that needed it in that regional. Also each regional should have a sticky that has a link to the consulate review I think as I wish I knew we had that when I went through. That was a big help I noticed after the fact.

In each regional have an organizer or two that looks for others looking for help. The organizers can steer them or their threads to the regional for more specific help in that region. Scott does this I notice for our region. Some post in sections asking something that can't be helped there much but maybe could if they were in a region with others.

But again it does not help if the ones that have gone through do not help any newbies that come through. Our regional and a few others are used a lot and helpful.

I agree. There are many Aussies here. Like I said before us Vietnamese forum users were many and swamped the few others from South Asia back then so we asked for our own and got it. It is now a well used forum.

Back a couple of years ago Ewok added Ukraine and Belarus to the Russia regional. It did seem to help some members from those countries to find support. As mentioned though, there are still loads of folks affiliated with those countries that don't post there - but some of them do read it and get information there.
