So my husband, Antonio, went to his first interview in El Salvador. Turned out that the I864 affidavit of support that was accepted from NVC doesn't make the cut in the El Salvador embassy. My total income for 2009 was 18255 and the minimum of this year is 18212. However the lady kept pointing out to my husband on the adjusted gross income which was 17,000 something and said that I didn't make enough AFTER taxes. I'm like WHAT THE FREAK. NVC says that you have to make enough out of your total income on taxes, not on the adjusted gross income ####### section. Well, my husband would've had his interview that same day with the consul officer but the damn affidavit of support.... Well either way, I ended up losing a day of work and did my taxes ASAP and fedexed that ####### to my husband. Before taxes I made a well over 20,000 and after nearly 19,000. Take that stupid Embassy. You're not denying my husband next thursday!!!! $#%^#es!

Oh, so I see that on american airlines the tickets from san salvador to san francisco, ca are cheap for the 28th of this month. My husband lives near the capital of san salvador, Ayutuxtepeque to be exact and its about 15 in bus away from MetroCentro. I've heard that receiving the visa through mail after it has been granted takes a week (is what the consul will say) but others say that it takes 2-4 weeks? Would buying a plane ticket for the 28th of this month be realistic or too risky? A flight in march, the prices are going high again and I still have to pay extra for our two huskies to go in cargo.... PAIN IN THE BUTTTTTTT!!! :bonk:

Never, ever purchase a plane ticket until the visa is in hand-----unless you can change the dates for a reasonable fee. Nothing is guaranteed when dealing with the US government.

I'm imagining that, yeah, I'm trying to see how much it would be if I would change the date or something. Why do consulates in other countries have to be complete a-holes???

Welcome to Latin & South America consulates. Do not presume success! Just asking, with nothing else implied: have you read the embassy reviews for your country?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

To protect USCitizens from immigration fraud.

Seriously, if you don't like the personal service yer husband is receiving, please consider a job in government service, specifically as a Immigration Officer, in an Immigrant Visa Unit, in a US Embassy in the country of yer choice, and then apply.

You'll have excellent chance to 'change the system' from within, or, you'll get jaded and become one of those a-holes yerself.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Yeah I read some, and they are super ridiculous! Some people get through with no problems, but others, my oh my, the officers really take advantage of the things petitioners and beneficiaries are willing to do to get their visa... One petitioner was asked to join in the second interview all the way from the US! That's insane, if they did that to my husband, I'm so broke right now, it's hard enough saving up for my husband's plane ticket alone... :/

Haha, I like your sense of humor haha. Actually I would but I'm already studying to become an Animation director, but hey, if all else fails... However, I wouldn't like to live in El Salvador again, that's why I want to bring my husband here! lol
