I know this has been gone over here a zillion times. But of course now is when I want it. I cannot find the thread that has hotel info in it. I'm pretty sure I have it saved (book marked) at home but I am at Davids now. I got the recommendation for hotwire.com and I am going to search it along with hotels.com Anyone have any other suggestions as to places to stay? I would like somewhere close enough to walk to the Consulate and that I can park a vehicle at if we chose to drive. Still unsure about whether to drive or train or bus or what....

I'm not back in Ontario until next week so if I can get something booked in advance that would be awesome.

As always your experiences are appreciated!

If you like spartan accomodations, for a decent price, we stayed at the Tour Centre Ville directly across the street from the consulate. Their number is (514) 866-8861

I stayed at Tour Centre Ville as well. Nothing fancy, but super close, like a 2 min walk! Check out expedia.ca travelocity.ca, etc etc for rates. I got the best rate by calling them though

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I wouldnt say the Tour Centre Ville is a rat trap. nothing special, sort of like a super 8 level. Best feature is it is super close to Embassy and walkable to shopping

I've heard too many incidents of cars being broken into in downtown Montreal this year. If I drive, I'll probably choose a mid-range hotel with a safe parking garage. Spend a little more and get a lot more security. There are two Delta Hotels within 1 km of the embassy.

Going to check out the Tour Centre Ville for sure!! I am good with convenience. I am actually bouncing around the idea of taking the train to Montreal instead of driving. Also, elliminates the worry of a car in downtown Montreal.

I had checked online with two hotels prior to posting and both were booked for the time period I am looking for. A Monday-Wednesday. Go figure!

Thank you a bunch!

Tour Centre Ville is not a luxury hotel by any stretch of the imagination but it was nice, comfortable and clean  ..... for one night it serves its purpose... why pay a lot of money for one or two night

It is very close to the embassy....

There is a Tim Hortons about a block or two down the street going left from the hotel and also a grocery store about a block or so in the other direction....

I took the train, it was a nice trip that way, no hassle trying to drive downtown Montreal, and no hassle trying to find parking.

The train station is about a 15 minute walk to the Hotel Centre Ville and the consulate. There's a Sheraton hotel directly across the street from the station, its kinda pricey, but its nice.

We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn Downtown. http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/YULRI

It's a short walk to the Consulate, shopping, and some excellent restaurants. A full breakfast buffet and evening snacks are included. We left the car in the underground valet parking for the duration and walked everywhere. The hotel is pristine and the service was exceptional.
