NYC and California = Totalitarian democracy

sigbet.jpg

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Yes, you're oppressed because of smoking fines. What the ** ever!

Well you have to admit he has a point. A fine for smoking in Times Square is a little ridiculous.

I'm surprised you're in favor of it, seeing as it is an infringement of the rights

of a minority, and you've been quite vocal in your opposition to other similar

laws, such as the French law banning the burqa and other Islamic face coverings

in public places, racial profiling at airports, etc.

Agreed. Fumes from smokers are probably the least of your worries there. It's not like prohibiting smoking will suddenly turn Times Square air into some pristine substance free of toxins and irritants.

In Anchorage, the idiots banned smoking in bars. Now I have never heard of anyone forcing a non smoker to enter a smoking establishment nor have I heard of anyone forcing someone to work in a smoking establishment. The bar owners are the ones who took the biggest hit. Bars have closed down after this law was passed due to lack of business. People in Anchorage drive north here to Wasilla on the weekends just to party down...and have the right to smoke in a bar.

Democrats these days are trying to make this country a totalitarian state where the citizens have zero rights and freedom of choice is becoming extinct. It makes me sick.

They have also banned smoking in bars here as well. Since I don't drink and I gave up cigarettes a few years ago it doesn't really impact me but it is stupid to see people standing outside a bar, in the middle of the night, in the rain and cold, just to smoke. Beer gardens are a popular thing here. Those can be designated a smoking area to allow people to be sheltered while they smoke.

There are Democrats in Alaska?

Anchorage is mostly populated now with people from the lower 48. They have ruined that city. They constantly change the laws there to where it's gotten so bad it's like Anchorage isn't even on par with the rest of Alaska as far as Alaskan mentality goes.

But ya I vote Democrat more often than I vote Republican for the fact the Repubs here make you register Republican before you can vote on their ballots. It's bs. But I did vote for Lisa Murkowski as a write in.

Yes, that's what happens when you are part of a large nation. People move. That's why there are Ohioans in Los Angeles and Pennsyltuckians in New Jersey and New Yorkers in Florida.

If this is a problem, please consider secession.

I see your still butt hurt after the last time you flapped your yap on here.

FYI the "Valley" as we call it here... Wasilla, Palmer, etc.. has been the fastest growing community in the US for the past two decades now due to the fact to many people like yourself moved up from the lower 48 to Anchorage. So what has happened is long time Alaskans moved out of Anchorage and out to the Valley.

Yes, like I said - that's what happens in big countries.

I think smoking cigarettes is worse decision than any fine levied. You don't even get high from it, #######!!!

I agree, but it's a personal choice while cigarettes are still legal.

I don't smoke myself, yet I have never felt the need for government "protection"

from smokers. If someone lights up near me, I can always walk away.
