You would think that if you applied for your passport after your oath ceremony that you wouldn't have to send your certificate in as it was just handed to you from the uscis, but i guess that's too sensible ;)

Well, I was told the other day that the DHS has no idea what the Department of State is doing, maybe that's why :lol:

Well, I was told the other day that the DHS has no idea what the Department of State is doing, maybe that's why :lol:

This is why at the end of my interview, the IO told me that even though I can get a passport for my son, that I should also apply for the N600 for him because otherwise USCIS will still have him listed as an LPR. Doesn't make any sense to me. THEIR rules say that when I become a citizen, he becomes one automatically. But, I guess that is too much work to mark him as one too.

Yeah, I was told the same thing. I don't see why I'd have to pay them extra $1200 and deal with them for another 5 months. They even interview kids, so that's an extra trip. Ridiculous.

I wish we could just pay them the extra money at the beginning and get the certificate for the kids at our Oath Ceremony. In the end, I will probably file for a certificate for my son before he reaches 18 or before USCIS raises the fees again (whichever comes first), just to have it as a backup for later in his life. I will make sure to send a copy of his US passport with that application (so the oath they have the kids do will be doubly ridiculous).
