Do you guys' RUB mates freak out on the passion for guns?

Mine doesn't freak out....she understands the investment...she understands the potential need....she understands what they represent relative to keeping a far-reaching government in check....

....what she doesn't understand is why I can order rifles and ammunition, online, and have them delivered to my door when she can not do the same for medication for the little one??!!!

Yes US is a crazy country.

Not at all. Alla was very happy to learn I had guns and she would be able to shoot. She shoots skeet with me. In October I went to a big skeet competition and she had to stay at the local library that day and do homework! she was MAD, she wanted to go shooting!

I bought her a 28 ga. Remington autoloader for skeet and she also shoots a S&W .22/32 "Kit Gun" revolver. She has also shot some larger handguns, but likes the .22 most. The boys also shoot and she has completey gotten over any worries of them being in the house with guns. She sees that once they are taught and have thw opportunity to use guns properly, they do not "play" with them.

Huh? My M1 or my M14 or even my Rem 700 is easy to aim.....so are my M1 Carbines.

Rapid fire?

I know it's not super difficult to shoot several shots at several targets with the big rifles, but I find it to be a whole lot easier (and faster) with the .223.

You're a wuss! After days of popping heads that "heavy" rifle, absorbing all that recoil, will be a reward.

Maybe. Although I really don't even feel the recoil on my AR. It's like it's not even there! "Recoil? What recoil?"

I'm just funnin ya, ya know!

Try out a Mosin or my M44 or my FR-8 is you want to FEEL recoil.

And I know you know that between target shooting and dropping a perp, there's a big difference in caliber used.

My wife supports my gun hobby and my preparing for life without the rule of law...like in Libya and Wisconsin.

I am, like many, rediscovering the wonderful snubnose revolvers of yesteryear. Colt Detective Specials are hot as all get out right now...cause they don't make them anymore. And what a sweet gun. Mechanism like a Swiss watch. Nice trigger (newer ones not so much). Very accurate for a short barreled gun. Decent carry weight 22 oz. and very concealable. And when she comes out no safeties, racking the slide, messing with jams, worrying about mags, etc. Just pull that trigger, baby. I still like the autos but it's refreshing to keep it simple sometimes. And, frankly, every auto I've owned has at times let me down. It didn't like certain ammo, the recoil springs went limp too soon. The magazines were fussy. The gun had to be cleaned often, etc. The snubbies are also good guns for women. No difficult battery of arms. Easy to carry in a purse, low recoil.

The hand assembled guns of past times are really nice. The Colt royal blue is classic bluing even though I went with the less common nickel plate version. The walnut grips are beautiful and rugged. I'm a definite convert. And so are half the gun lovers...the prices in just 6 months has jumped and parts like factory grips and accessories is the same deal.

Get one while you can.

I have more revolvers than autos and they are very useful. Great for training new shooters, also great for dropping in a pocket for concealed carry.

And I know you know that between target shooting and dropping a perp, there's a big difference in caliber used.

M1s and M1As have very mild recoil in my opinion. They are a bit on the heavy side and the autoloading action reduces felt recoil a bit.

I have two M1895s in .405 WCF one of them with a cresent butt and that is just painful to shoot. They both rattle your teeth, but the one with the shotgun butt does not leave bruises. The .375 H&H that is behind the kitchen door to shoot elephants in the garden will get your attention when you shoot it, but a 12 ga with slugs belts you about the same. The .45-70 and .45-110 have reputations for heavy recoil but it is not true.

The other mid to large bore rifles I shoot, .35 Whelen, .35 Winchester, .348 Winchester, are not so bad but are not fun for shooting lots of ammo in one sitting. The .35 WCF would not be so bad at all, but it is another M1895 with a cresent butt.

I never shot a .338 Win Mag but hear they have heavy recoil. I never tried any of the .30 mags and such. I have never been a "magnum" rifle kind of guy and have the .375 H&H only because I collect Winchesters and got a super deal on a classic M70. It is the only "belted magnum" I own.

The .223 has virtually no recoil, The most distracting thing to me when shooting the AR is the "boing" you hear in the stock from the recoil spring.

The most "distinctive" recoil of any gun I use is the Browning A5, which has a strange double shuffle slam-bam. It seems to recoil twice going backward and once going forward. Love that gun!

I'm the opposite and have just started getting into wheel guns. Have a S&W 442 and a Ruger Service Six both in .38 Spl, very nice and the 442 is "hammerless" and light; perfect for CCW. (unfortunately here in IL we can't do that)

I have an S&W 642, stainless centennial. It is steel so a bit heavier, but works great for CC. This is the gun you take out of the drawer and drop in your coat pocket when you have to run out to the store.

When I started shooting handguns, autoloaders, except the M1911 were still kind of "suspect" untrustworthy etc. I also was living on a ranch in west Texas and carried a revolver when working. They could be loaded with homemade "snake loads". I put 2 grs of Bullseye powder in the case and a cardboard wad, followed by as many number 9 pellets as I could get in there and then another cardboard wad. You won't find that in any loading manual  I have no idea what the pressure was (low, I am sure)or the velocity. I know that if you were moving boards and found a rattlesnake under there it killed them easily. The first two chambers had snake loads, the rest were real bullets. I had little use for an auto. BUT the very first handgun I ever bought was Ruger Standard Auto .22 when I was about 16. (my Dad actually bought it for me with money I earned) The next was a Colt Trooper MKIII .357. Then I decided S&W were better than Colts (that was the hot debate at that time) and bought several S&Ws next. I really was not interested in autos at all in until much later, and then I stuck with the M1911 in various forms for quite a while.

Now, in my older and wiser age, I realize that Colts (at least some of them) are just as good as S&W. I have a Colt Officers Model Match that is one of my favorites and is built like a swiss watch. It was the predecessor to the "python". I also have and use a Colt M1903 .32 Auto. Love that gun also. Very slim. Conceals SO easy even under light clothes. I know that if I ever have to shoot someone with it, and they find out about it, they will probably kick my @ss.

But I still love revolvers.

No. Vermont. There is no crime here. Because we all have guns. WHO are you gonna rob?

Seriously, anyone can carry concealed here, no license needed. Of course not everyone carries a gun, at least not ALL the time. So if you want to open a crime business here, you only have to be a good guesser! Lowest crime rate in the country! Lowest crime rate on the continent! Lowest crime rate in the western hemisphere and maybe the whole world!!!!!!!! :wow:

sorry, got carried away. :P

Really, you can go anywhere here and ask for change for a $100 bill.

Better have that sidearm ready if you yank out a 100 bill here... Although I must say, crime here has dropped considerably since Katrina hit. We used to be number 1 or 2 between us and DC, and now were 39 amongst large metro crime rates. All the gangsters and such moved to Atlanta and Houston after Katrina and they never came back.

In Alaska you could wear your sidearm around town, perfectly legal. Just not allowed in certain places, like ummm banks and bars.

Same here, but you can carry in banks and bars also. Openly or concealed. You can even go to the grocery store (or bank or bar) naked except for your gun. Please don't.

Try out a Mosin or my M44 or my FR-8 is you want to FEEL recoil.

My buddy brought out his K-31 Swiss and shot a few rounds to zero. He then looked up at me, "you wanna try?"

I passed.

And I know you know that between target shooting and dropping a perp, there's a big difference in caliber used.

For me there's not.

I plink with my .22LR and if TEOTWAWKI happened overnight, I'd probably carry my "urban assault rifle" (10/22 with folding stock) around town since it's quiet, accurate, and like a carry gun, it's enough to make the zombies try to eat someone else. Even the lowly .22 is enough to drop a perp, just ask the Israelis.

If we're talking all-out SHTF, I'm carrying an AR and a .45 - the same weapons I use to shoot targets. I suppose there'd be more options if I had more arms. I really don't have a big selection so I shoot what I have.

but a 12 ga with slugs belts you about the same.

A New England Firearms Pardner 12ga. was my first gun. Boy does that sucker kick! Single shot 12s are probably about the worst recoil you can get (other than single shot 10s, of course!) so when you shoot something like an AR, or even an M-1, after shooting that thing, it's like nothing at all.

The .223 has virtually no recoil, The most distracting thing to me when shooting the AR is the "boing" you hear in the stock from the recoil spring.

When I try to get folks to ground their nose on the charging handle many of them pull away after the first shot. "What was that?"

The most "distinctive" recoil of any gun I use is the Browning A5, which has a strange double shuffle slam-bam. It seems to recoil twice going backward and once going forward. Love that gun!

It's an experience. My stepfather recently bought one and let me shoot it. Wow!

for CCW. (unfortunately here in IL we can't do that)

Not legally, anyway. Although, I have heard it's been done....
