i know it's a pipe dream, but would like him to be home on valentines day, and our interview is feb 10th. missed being home for good by xmas, new years and my big 3-0 birthday, would be nice to make this occasion.

do they ever approve and give the visa on the same day anymore? or is this pretty much a thing of the past?

thanks for any input

It depends on whether your consulate allows you to pick your visa up, or if it gets mailed to you. I got mine 4 days after my visa was approved, but Montreal is a really slow moving consulate. Your best bet is to ask when you have your interview.

Good Luck!!

And I know this is very cliched, but it is very true, you will have a lifetime of xmas's, new years's and (well not 30th', but other) birthdays, so try not to be too upset if it doesnt work out. V-day is on a monday anyways (blah), it will be much more fun if you can make a weekend out of it afterwards :)

My hubby and I have been married for 4 and half years, due to gruelling immigration process, this is going to be our first valentines day actually spent together!

Good luck at your interview!!

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

lol, monday is actually one of my weekend days :) i put in 13 hour days on weds, fri and sat, and pull a 9 hour on sunday. so not only would it be vday which would be nice, but also a day i don't have to try and get an employee to cover for me. (i don't want to be THAT employer). and theoretically i know it doesn't really matter, but when we started this process last may, our lawyer (that charged us the equivalent of 4 months rent) PROMISED me he'd be home by christmas. so this is the last tangible "holiday", and it would just be lovely if he could actually make it.

if not then i'm just thrilled that we got an interview date a week away from our notification letter i guess.

hope your valentines day is romantic as hell :)

Most likely London will approve you on Thurs 10th, and maybe the visa will print on Fri 11th and be turned over to the courier. But then there's the weekend. He can pay for before 8 am delivery, but I think the earliest he could reasonably hope for is Monday morning (Valentines Day). I haven't heard of many going out with the courier the same day as the interview. Maybe if he got in line for the interview pre-dawn and snagged the first slot of the day... well there's just too many if's to get your hopes up. And there's so many, many tourist and other visas that get called up before they will start with the K1s that even being first immigrant type in line won't put you first in line for the visa printing most likely. And arent last minute plane fares terribly expensive?

But you can call DOS late on the 10th and they will know if the visa has been printed the same day.

not anymore for some reason, as long as you do roundtrip anyways. i tried booking one for tomorrow, just for fun, and it's the same price as one for 2 weeks from now. 705$. oneway was about 1100$ though.

If his interview is on Thursday then he should hopefully receive his visa/passport on Monday. By "should" I don't mean anything definite, you should not take that to mean that you should book flights based on that! Think of it this way: For Valentine's Day, you will receive the great gift of the visa. Very soon after, you will be together forever. That's a pretty special Valentine's Day, correct? And then next year will be your first Valentine's together, and so will be more special than it would be otherwise!

This will actually be my first Valentine's with my husband. I was in London last year, celebrated Chinese New Year with my best friend instead haha. Interviewed on 11th February, received visa on 15th. Flew here on 23rd :-) Maybe you can spend some time preparing for his arrival, arrange something special or whatnot. You may not be able to be together this year, but it will be the very happiest days you have ever spent apart!!

OP, look at it this way: Your first major holiday together could be St. Patrick's Day. You can go out together and beat the bushes, looking for leprechauns. :)

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
