A belated posting, fiancee had interview Jan 18th. Got pink after a long interview and alot of questions in English and Vietnamese. She stay calmed and looked the counselor in the eye, smiled and joked back and forth. He asked alot a questions about my children and wanted her to name them in the picture along with their birth dates. I stress that you have yours and hers 10 years of residency notarized and with her at the interview along with any addresses of x spouse. There are more questions if you have any questions just pm and I will answer when I have time.

Many thanks to all of you that helped us along the way. A personal thank you to Jerome and Binh for opening their house up and helping her with english several days. I know she had a tough time the last time at your house but she was stressed to the max preparing for the interview. Once again Jerome, you and Binh are the best!!

Another shout out is to Marc Ellis and Mr. Nam. I'm not a person that takes the paper work process very well, I still don't even know a lot. his office came through and helped her prepare for the interview the last 3 weeks prior to interview. 5 days a week 3 hours a day she was prepped. Along with almost 16 hours a day she studied English and prepared. I can honestly say the money I paid was well worth it. She was welcomed home to one of the biggest blizzards of the year. Here flight was cancelled to our local airport, so I jumped in the 4 wheel drive and drove to Chicago O'Hara 3 hours away. she had no clue I was coming, I spotted her easily at baggage

claim near customs. It was one the happiest days of my life!

I went to the SSI office and they would not let apply for cards, I thought that was the first thing you do for a k1? The gentleman at SSI said she needed to be cleared for work from DHS. I was unaware of this. Please help. Thanks Rich.

Congrats!

Go to a different SSA office, or go back and demand to see a manager if you get the run around, K-1 is authorized to receive a SSN, because in some states you cannot get a marriage license without it..

Also is best to wait at least 2 weeks after entry, before applying for SSN, in some cases the SSA wont issue one unless they can verify status, and it takes at least that long for USCIS to update the database for status.

Moving to K-1 status reports sub forum..
