Not sure if anyone can help ....having worked most of my life i have of course contributed to the standard government pension ( also have been fortunate to have for past 8 years also paying into work related pension as well) ...so..i wondered what happens when i reach the age of retirement if i am in USA - will my contributions still count? I am presuming my company will deal with the private company pension themselves - all info greatly appreciated :D

Yes your State Pension is still payable when you live in the USA... Just remember to let the Pensions Deprartment know if you change address...

Here are their contact details...

The Pension Service International Pension Centre (IPC) deal with queries about United Kingdom benefits payable to overseas customers. You can contact the IPC on +44 191 218 7777 or fax +44 191 218 7293. If you have speech or hearing difficulties you can contact us using a textphone on +44 191 218 7280. Opening hours are 8.00 am to 8.00 pm (GMT). Or you can write to The International Pension Centre, Tyneview Park, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE98 1BA, United Kingdom

Hope this helps

One other thing about having your pension paid direct to the US is that the pensions department convert oit to dollars before they send it over. Brilliant when the pound is riding high against the dollar and you get a much better return anyway than if it was sent in sterling to your account and was then converted on the US side.

I have seen mine go up by nearly $100 dollars a month since the exchange rate started to rise, I know you take the good with the bad but at the moment it is just great
