Hello, my wife had her I485 transfered from Chicago to CSC on 1/26/2011 now I get another notice that it has been transfered back to Chicago. Does anyone have any idea why it has been transfered for the second time and what can I ecpect now. Thanks for your help

Check the notice again...Does it say it's back to Chicago? Or does it say that your application was sent to an USCIS office? We all get 2 notices: the first one is when they transfer the file to CSC and the second one is for when it was received and handled at CSC. The terminology is kinda confusing, I know. I got my 2 notices on Jan 18 and 24 respectively... And there are lots of applicants like us. Good luck!

Chicago is only a drop off point. The USCIS office they are referring to is your local Application Service Center (ASC), based on the zip code of the address you put in your application. The ASC is the same office where you had biometrics (or will have biometrics in case you haven't gone through it yet).

you're correct, it says it is was transfered and now being processed at an USCIS office. I assumed that would be Chicago.

I think in their case, their local USCIS office is Chicago...and they already received a notice stating clearly that the I-485 was sent to CSC. The problem was with the second notice, which is confusing, but if you check the forums (including the AOS November filers) you'll see that everyone (or most of those) that got their AOS file transfered got 2 notices. It used to confuse us, the files, but not anymore, thanks to VJ and the sharing on this website.

First you get a notice saying it's been sent to CSC and then you get a notice about a week later saying your file has been received at a local office for processing". that's basically telling yuo that your file arrived at CSC safely.

If you get a letter stating it's been sent to your local office and the name of your local office is there (in my case Des Moines) then expect an interview.

based on your post though I think you just received confirmation your file arrived at CSC safely.
