My fiancée and I are waiting to hear back from the US Embassy in Buenos Aires for our K1 Visa interview date. She dropped off a copy of all the paperwork on the checklist at the embassy on 1/18/11. We still haven't received our interview date and are getting a little concerned. We feel we have all of our paperwork in order and are very confident that we'll receive the Visa with little issues. Anyone have any advice on how long it should take to hear back from the Embassy for the interview date? I've emailed and called Service Support number but I haven't received any response. Also any advice on the interview process would be greatly appreciated. I have a flight scheduled for her on 3/10/11 and I was hoping not to have to change the travel dates but I could with a small change fee.

I would email them again, they usually got back to me within a few days to a week. We got our interview date 5 days after we hand delivered our packet. But, I have also heard of cases where they didnt hear from the embassy for a few weeks and when they finally heard their interview date was only a few days later. So, if I were you I would start getting everything ready for your interview now.

Hello,

You are welcome to try emailing to ask- but if they are behind in opening mail and assigning interview dates, it's likely they're behind in answering email too, so if you do this and don't get a response right away, don't worry. It probably is just them being too busy, and nothing wrong with your case.

When we were in this situation, I as the USC went to the embassy to figure out what was going on. The citizen can enter to ask questions at a counter they have specifically to help USCs there in Bs As. I got the impression that it's fairly common that a USC will enter in this way to ask about visas for non-USCs, since there's no other fast way to get answers from the embassy.

If you are in a position to do that, try it! Otherwise, it's a funny blend of patience and preparation. First, prepare for the interview, then the POE, the move to the US, the wedding, the AOS packet, finding new friends, new job, new everything in the US. Although it may seem like your life is on hold while you wait, there's plenty you can do to keep busy that will make it a lot easier and faster for you once things do get moving!

Best of luck!
