Hello.

This is the first time that i post on a Forum of this sort.. i'm usually in forums regarding BlackBerries, Macbook Computers, Video Games and Architecture.

After that extensive introduction, i will head on out and tell my story...

I am a 30 year old Architect living in Central America. I graduated from Architecture in 2007. I am searching for my Masters in Architecture in the States.. or whatever Course i can enter at this stage (Web Design?).

I was once a US Resident, but i could not travel to the States in 06 because of my studies and so my Green Card expired. Now i want to travel back to the States and live there, and i am regretting losing my residency so much!

I wanted to travel to the States last year, and so i went to the US Embassy over here.. my plan was to try and Renew my Green Card. They told me that my Green Card could not be renewed.. so i applied to a Tourist Visa. I used the Visa to travel to Florida a couple of months ago. That tourist visa expired 15 days ago.

I always wondered if there was any way to renew my green card, having applied for a tourist visa and all. I have my social security number still, and the expired green card..

Maybe someone on these forums has had a similar experience? Can't i just go to the States and go to the USCIS with my expired green card and pay the $390 bucks? If it were so simple, right?

Well, here's hoping.

I never lose faith in anything, nothing is impossible in this life.

Cheers,

Carlos

Carlos,

I think that you practically abandoned your residency in letting your greencard expire and by not returning to the US. Remember that the card is proof of "permanent residence" in the US and you let it expire. How did you obtain your residence? Did a family member file on your behalf? If so, could that person file for you again?

Best wishes! (F)

Thanks for the response Aztec!

I lived in San Francisco for 3 years, and in that time my grandmother filed on my behalf. She is still alive! hehe. But she lives here now, right next to my house. She was born and raised in the States and has lived most of her life here. Do you think she can file for me again without any hassle?

Also, i have a brother (21), and he is a US Citizen as well. I have investigated a bit, and he can give me Citizenship, but i was told it takes up to 10 years. Is that true? I think that will be my last option.

It would be sweet to renew my residence

First of all, welcome to VJ. I'm probably not much help, but residency and citizenship are different. I found this link -
