We had an interesting evening yesterday. My wife and step-son set up the table outside on our porch about 11:30pm, with all the food, candles, some little electric lanterns, etc. for the "spiritual" invitation. Prayers at both the family altar and the outside table began at exactly midnight. Midway through, at precisely 12:15am, the power went out in the whole neighborhood.

I walked down to the street. It was eerie. Everything was practically pitch black, except for that table covered with fruit and cakes, candles and incense. My house is a split-level, with the front door on the middle level, so the porch is about six feet off the ground. It really looked like this ghostly table was floating in mid air. Even more strange - the table was flanked by two of our cats, who also appeared to be hovering off the ground.

Whaddya think? Strange omen for the Year of the Cat?
