My husband and i had our interview for adjustment of status on September 21st, 2010 at the St. Louis immigration office. I was adjusting from a F1 status. The interview went well, only lasting for 10 minutes or so. Everything seemed fine and the IO made us sign this paper about removal of conditions after 2 years after reading it. She took my I-94 card from the passport and told us to check our mail in the next couple of weeks. We were so happy to be done with this as we thought all went well and i would be getting the green card in the mail soon. Well, that happiness was short lived as days turned into weeks, and into months. It has been 4 months since our interview and no word yet. Our lawyer have tried to inquire, we have tried to inquire too through 2 infopasses and 1 service request but all they say is that our file is with the supervisor for further review. I tried to make another service request but was not able to as they said i have to wait 6 motnhs to do so after making the first service request! I even asked to speak to an immigration officer but they told me the same thing. I am so frustrated by all this. My husband and i both have clean records with nothing to hide. A friend suggested we contact our congressman and we did so but havent heard anything yet. Anyone else have an idea on what to do? I just feel its not fair the way USCIS makes people wait. I feel like my life is on hold or something. I am going back to school and i was looking forward to being able to apply for financial aid because without it we cannot afford. My relationship with my husband has not been the best lately because he says all i talk about is immigration while i feel like that's all there is to talk about! I feel like he does not understand and sympathise with me being an immigrant and the hussles we have to go through in the immigration process. Am so frustrated by the wait as i do not know why its taking so long and my student visa has expired.

Please advice on what to do, maybe there is someone out there who has gone through this????:(

What is the time span between the day you got into the country with your F-1 visa and when you got married?

Thanks for the reply. I came here in 2003 with the F1 visa, the whole time i stayed in school, met my now husband in 2008 December, got married in 2010 April. Our case as our lawyer told us is straight forward with no criminal backgrounds on either of us. My F1 visa expired in 2008 June. Thanks!

You met your husband after your visa expired. They probably suspect you were shopping for a US citizen husband so that you could stay in the US. Give them some time to complete their investigation. If everything comes out ok then you should be approved.

Also, back off your husband about the immigration stuff. It's out of his hands. He can't make it go any faster. The more you talk about it, the more you plant the seed in the back of his mind that you married him for a green card. You've been out of status for more than two years. Another six months isn't that much. Try to relax and look at this as a little holiday.

If this statement is true, then I can understand why your husband feels the way he does. Everything will happen in its due time, your husband can not make immigration hurry up, no faster than you can. Try living your life without constantly talking about immigration. I hope there is more to your marriage than what you have just posted, but you are making it seem to him that this is the only important thing in your marriage.

Relax, and when you least it expect it, it will all pull through. Good luck...

Thanks everyone for the replies. I now realize i have made this immigration stuff stress me so much instead of just letting it take its course. At least i have EAD and AP. I have a very loving husband who really tries to understand. I feel so bad i have stressed him with this stuff. From now on i will just keep saying my prayers and not let this stuff come between us:)

Thanks all again!

Hi, I had my interview in STL too. I haven't heard since my interview either. Do you have any updates on your case?

Posted

When did you have your interview?? Not everyone's case lands on the supervisors desk. I have not yet heard anything. I am giving them time since there is nothing else I can do at this time plus I have exhausted all the help with no results. My husband and I decided to wait it out till our 2 year wedding anniversary and if by then I won't have the greencard we'll go ahead and file a writ of mandamus. In that way I will instead get a 10 green card. Wish you all the best. Keep me updated.

Well My interview was three months ago in April of 2011. I know you had your interview back in 2010. It seems like St. Louis is really slow at processing applications. I noticed that most people on this site seem to get their GC pretty soon after the interview. I wonder why it takes so long for STL. Did the immigration officer who interviewed you take your EAD and I-94 during your interview?

Did any of you get an I-551 stamp in your passports at the end of the interview?

I had my AOS interview last week in STL and I was approved there and then. I, too had to sign the conditional residency letter. Both my EAD and I-94 were taken away. I have since gotten a "Welcome Letter" saying that I got approved for the GC. Now I'm just waiting for the plastic card to stop by.

I forgot to ask for one at the end of the interview. We also signed the conditional residency letter and she said we'll probably get approved. So I am not sure why I haven't received mine yet. Its good that your application is moving fast.

The immigration officer took my I-94 and also had my husband and I sign the conditional residency letter. She did not take my EAD. It's been so weird because she told us that i was approved and would be getting my green card in a couple of weeks & yet am still waiting. They keep telling us that my file is with a supervisor. My husband and I are planning on filing a writ of mandamus on our one year anniversary for the interview if I won't have the GC by then. I know people who've passed through the STL office and have been approved quickly. I really wish we would have requested for a stamp on my passport.

Have you taken an infopass??? Service request??? If so, next step would be to contact your local U. S representatives. They can prove to be helpful sometimes, I've heard. I wish you all the best.

P.S- I really hope your file is not with a supervisor by the name of Alan Johnson. I have heard from a couple of people on this site that he's been sitting on their applications for a long time, including mine. I pray that he may get transferred or something!
