I haven't encountered it personally as I am not there yet lol but from what I have read, it is possible you get questioned by Customs. However, they say it is ok as long as you have a copy of your Marriage Certificate. Also, they say that her ticket should have the same name as her passport.

Lots of previous posts abt the topic. Check the results here

:)

Thanks for the link to the previous posts. It seems like she will be OK

The AOS interviewer arbitrarily changed my wifes middle name. Upon marriage, her maiden name became her middle name. In Georgia, when you apply for your marriage license they ask you to specify what middle name you want. My wife chose her old maiden name as her middle name. Her EAD, Social Security, and Military Dependant ID card all have the correct middle name. However when we had our AOS interview, the interviewer changed her middle name back to the middle name on her birth certificate, (we were not aware of this).

When we got the approval letter, we noticed that the middle name had been changed and immediately called the 800 number on the form. We finally got in touch with a real human being who said she would try to change it. However, she couldn't get it done.

The day the green card arrived, we submitted an I90 (no fee), to have it corrrected. They accepted the form last month, but we haven't heard anything since. The NOA for the change however was addressed with the correct middle name.

I never encountered that problem during my AOS interview, whatever I put in the I-485 application was the same name in my Green card. I did it the "Pinoy way" and never was I questioned by the IO. I never changed my PH passport name 'coz I did not plan on traveling anywhere 'til I became a USC. Hopefully your wife will not have any problems when she goes home.

Wish we would have done it the Pinoy way on the greencard. But it just is something we never thought of at the time.

from what I know.... American middle name is just a normal name.. like John David Smith.. could be written as John D. Smith....

in the Philippines... we have middle names... and MAIDEN names... names that we acquired from our mothers.. so if your name is Mary Jane Vargas Ramos.... you could be Mary J. Ramos here in the USA... they do not put MAIDEN names here.... based on what I know.

Well since her name her name was Mary Ramos Vargas and she married John Smith that greencard was applied for in the name of Mary Ramos Smith. That is the US way correct?

But now she went to amend her name in her passport and the Philippine consulate insists her name is Mary Vargas Smith.

I am just wondering if the name in the passport and the name on the greencard not matching 100% can cause some problem?

NO

- Get a document from the philippine consulate "one and the same person" or just fly to the philippines, bring all supporting documents (marriage certificate, birth certificate, drivers license).

Hi all hope everyone is well. Has been 2 years now since my love has been in the US. So have not checked in here for awhile now.

Have a burning question. Is your wifes middle name suppose to change when you get married? For example if Mary Ramos Vargas married John Smith should her name now become Mary Vargas Smith? In my opinion after marriage her name would be Mary Ramos Smith. Hope what I am asking is clear.

After I got married, I use my last name (when still single) as my current middle name, and that's the name I use in all legal documents I have. Haven't encountered any problems so far. The key, I think, is being consistent on what name to use, and reflect that on any legal document.

So my suggestion is to let her use "Mary Vargas Smith".

The green card will come in the name that you apply for it in. You fill out the forms in the name she wants the card in when she is here.

Not necessarily.

We applied for AOS using my wife's maiden name as her new midddle name but at our AOS interview they would not allow it and issued the green card with her original middle name. They said we would have to do it legally (petition the local court) to change it. We decided we had had enough hassels with government agencies and fees in the last couple of years and will just keep her middle name the same.

Not necessary.

My advice is go for amendments of her passport. You have to go to Philippine Consulate and might get it done through the day or they will mail the passport back. In her passport it will say there that she's married to you ,date and place and sign.

So that would be easy.
