Hi all,

I am new to these forums and I would love nothing more than to interact with some people going through the same things I've been going through. My fiancee and I have been together for nearly 2 years. He is in Cairo, I am in the US. He is currently serving his time in the military. I have been to Cairo twice, with my next visit planned for Feb. 10th. I don't have to tell you all how heartsick I am at the current situation. I will be going as soon as things calm down there.

I usually stay in a flat in Mohandeseen, but my last trip there the flat was kind of dirty and had a seemingly endless list of issues! Any suggestions on where to stay during a trip to Cairo from any of you would be most appreciated.

Also any general tips on this particular type of long distance relationship would be welcomed.

Thank you all..

Hi, I went to egypt in October. We rented a flat in El Rehab, nice place outside of cairo and the airport. El Rehab is a city within itself. The flat was nice, but a little costly, I have no idea what you all paid but it was like $280 pounds per day, which is like a decent hotel room. They had a huge food court, and 2 malls there, we seen 4 different schools of different countries and was told there was like 7 of them there. It has it's own bus system, and buses in to the city. It is walled in and there is security there 24 hours a day. I loved it. If you like we can become friends and chat, just give me a p.m.

Hi, my fiance is also in Cairo, and I visited him in October. I'm very concerned with what's going on there. It's especially frustrating that there is no Internet, and limited cell phone service. I also heard that even the trains were stopped! I hope and pray that it will end peacefully with the change that Egypt needs and deserves. I'm starting to feel that things will turn out positively, but it may take some time. If you want to chat, just send me an email. --- Virginia

Welcome to VJ, LRH! There are alot of good people who are/were in the same postition as you are!

My husband arrived here in April'10. We did the CR1 visa so our experience may not be the same as yours but we have all been in the same boat regardless!

If there is anything I can help with just let me know!

Good luck with your VJ!

Thank you all for your responses! I believe that my fiancee and I will be getting married in Egypt this summer. He would like to find work there once he has completed his service and save some money before he comes over. I know he'll have quite some time given the application process takes so long. With the recent uprisings in the country, we just really feel that we would like to make our commitment "official" as soon as we can. So it looks like we'll be going through the spousal visa process after all.

Best wishes for you both! I can certainly understand. I hope the current events won't extend our loved ones in their service. Feel free to message me anytime.

Have to be careful with that, i am sure there will be a rise in marriages and things like this. The embassy will be looking for the ppl there to be using others for a escape. Just be prepared for this to be a long hard road.

Yeah... I expect it's going to be much harder now with what's happened in Egypt. I'm just not sure that it's going to matter how we go about things, I think we'll run into a lot of scrutiny no matter how we handle it. Of course I have plenty of evidence of my last two trips, so they'll see we've been a couple for quite some time. I hope that will help a little bit.

It seems like that would be easily answered for the OP by proof of knowing the person 2 years prior to the current situation.
