have a question regarding the DCF visa. I work for an

american university in Germany and live here with my german fiance. We

plan on getting married and moving to the U.S. I was wondering if we can

start the process in Germany and leave together or if I would have to

leave prior in order to obtain employment for the affidavit of support?

I am a full-time worker here in Germany but do not currently have any

kind of job in the U.S. since it is not my residence at the moment. Will

my job here be sufficient or do I have to show that I am employed in the

U.S. before I can bring my wife to the U.S.?

Since I would like to leave with her instead of flying her in after I went back home and found a job I thought of another option: My parents living in the U.S. would be willing to fill out the affidavit of support for her. Would that work ?

The alternative of course is a K1 Visa and then an adjustment of status in the states but I do not want her sitting around in the U.S. waiting for her green card without being able to work or go to school... Please help us.

Firstly you work for an American University, will this continue after you move back to the USA? If so this will satisfy both Domicile and Income issues for the Affidavit of support.

I would do DCF over K-1 any-day, DCF is for a spouse visa, (CR-1) this visa gets green-card the moment they enter the USA.

If you seem to feel income after returning to USA will be an issue, then get a Joint Sponsor in the USA.

No, I will not keep my job once I move to the U.S. , we will start all over. However, I have family there who would be willing to co-sponsor the affidavit of support. How long approximately does DCF take these days?

DCF tends to take half the time of a K-1 or CR-1 through USCIS in the states.

Perhaps 3-4 months..

thank you so much for replying so quickly . It sounds like the perfect option for us It doesnt matter where we got married, does it? Is this option also available for military members stationed in the country of residence of their wife?

Nope, could conceivably get married in the USA during a visit, then return to Germany and then later DCF.
