I am not the one making a non factual statement so it is one you to find the links. I know that most scientists are believers myself. You are the one making the sweeping statement. Of course I know you will never find anything to prove what you said.

I am a non-believer. Are you actually in the science field? I only ask because I am surrounded by scientists all day every day and none of the ones I know are believers.

Quit being lazy and use google yourself. It's not that hard.

I quoted a study, providing a reputable news source in reference. You claim to "know" that most scientists are believers, citing only anecdotal experience.

Frankly I'm unprepared to continue doing research for you.

That's because you are speaking of scientists inside a university. The communist/socialist tendencies of people in the employ of universities and colleges is well known, not to mention well documented.

I used to be a petroleum Chemist for 15 years. Also worked at the Johnson space center for a few years. Used to the regional vice president for a world wide independant testing service for the Gulf coast and Venezuela. My step father was the head of parts of space shuttle development. I also used to do a lot of work for the Institute of Standards and Technology developing standards for the Petroleum testing. (Mostly sulphur and certain metals)

I still know and even golf and interact with many in those two industries. Of course we also go to the same churches. When I used to have to go around and do some public speaking I would meet a few that were atheists but most were always religious even if they were non observing. I also used to be non observing but pretty much am forced to observe by my new wife. In fact I have noticed that many that were non observers are now going more often to church.

I have read many times a pseudo study that says that scientists and even watched a film recently that said most were atheists but they have never held up.

I have and there is none. I was hoping that this someone that is spouting ####### could back it up and show me proof.

A study in a very narrow range and area. Hardly can be held up to a wide view.

I was responding to your (unsupported) implication that most scientists were believers with a study of contrary findings.

I was not "spouting" anything. I was lending perspective. I have mentioned twice now that I see little value in this line of argument.

Cool! Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.

I'm curious if the people changed their beliefs as they got older? A large amount of the people I'm around are 30-40.

I do know that many, if not most, of the MDs I know are very religious.

I very much doubt that, seeing as science is antithetical to religion

and no self-respecting scientist would ever accept the mythical

structures and miraculous events that are constituents of religious

belief as anything but man-made fiction-fantasy.

The closer you get to the grave, the more likely you will concern yourself with the next life. At 30-40, you are not yet concerned with your own mortality. At 50, you been to notice more and more of your friends dying, along with most of your older relatives. These are all generalizations, but there is some truth in there.

Anytime Amby and always try to reply if possible.

I have found that many do change their beliefs as the age. I was one of the few that even though I was not an atheist I drifted from my religion and searched for meaning. I even looked at other religions and in Asia I was actually very comfortable in their belief systems. I had a remarkable thing happen to me and clarity came. I still didn't quite come around but did my long hike back to where I am now. It just came down for me to be comfortable in my beliefs and be content and I am. My good friend back when we both were in school and I studying Physics and he Chemistry was raised religious but said he was a Atheist and I laughed at how he still observed and went to church so much when I did not. He also came back as he got into his 40's and observes now regularly. Many I know back then do so. We are getting into our 50's and maybe feeling our mortality more now. My brother is still a Chemist for 30 plus years now and is still an avowed Atheist. He lets us all know how stupid we all are also like most Atheists do. My best friend is still agnostic but he is starting to soften for some reason.

I used to have to travel extensively for my former work and almost all the science people were religious but of course this was in all the parts of the U.S. and Venezuela and the couple of places in Asia I had to go. I did go to Europe a couple of times for on site witnessing of testing and found a few that were atheists but that was a very small sample. If I had to judge them on that little amount I would say that the European science workers were over all Atheists but it was brief and small samples.

I also am now exposed to many doctors due to my wifes family and they all are very religious but my own primary physician for many years now is an Atheist. Age does change us all so maybe some will change and some not.

B.S. Science and religion can and do coexist. Scientists learn a lot from mythology. In every legend, there is at least a grain of truth.

That is strange you say that since most scientists have been and are religious. In fact the giants of science that have started science disciplines and even have gone against church teachings have been religious. Galileo, Copernicus, pretty much upended church teachings and till the day they died still believed. Newton was a huge giant of science and was a huge believer and even used the bible mathematically to try to prove the future. Of course there was Darwin who did go away from religion but returned as he aged. Especially after his beloved daughter died and his death was coming closer he announced he was no Atheist.

Of course in the past century we had the Curies, Einstein, Bohr, Oppenheimer who were all genius's and giants of science were all religious and these were just a few of many. All of these were very respectable scientists and amazing people that revolutionized the world also. Of course since most people would say these are respectable and great people and someone that says they are not means that the one that says they are disreputable is pathetic.

No matter how anyone tries to displace our God there are many more that places God in our hearts and minds.
