USCIS I-751 form a dead end?

We are still more than 1 year away from filing for ROC, but I thought I would check out the

forms & instructions. This is what I found today ->

USCIS I-751 Form link is a dead end because it tells you to install the latest Adobe reader

instead of giving you the form. I did install the new reader and when I clicked on the

I-751 Instructions file, there was no problem downloading it.

The VJ Guides link for the I-751 gives the same result because it's the same target

as when I googled for the I-751 form.

No doubt there is an issue with the form currently. They have replaced the actual form with the message you listed. I assume it will be fixed, eventually.

I had no trouble downloading the form. Try again

The PDF downloads, but there is no form contained, rather a few lines of text claiming Adobe Acrobat Reader is required.

My guess is that the good 'ole govt somehow created this new, updated PDF in such a way that it is not compatible with older versions of the Adobe reader (and most if not all other non-Adobe PDF viewers). I personally refuse to install Acrobat Reader since it is a bloated & annoying piece of software. So, another option is to download the slightly older version of the I-751 from visapro. Older versions, such as the one listed here, ARE accepted. Another option is to inform USCIS that they have created a document that is not compatible with many PDF viewers.

I think the problem is with the internet browser. I was using Google Chrome as my browser and noticed that PDF files would display but not with the usual Adobe menus showing up. I just tried downloading the I-751 from the USCIS website using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. With Google Chrome I got the message that I needed to update Adobe Acrobat Reader. With Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer the form showed up properly on my screen with the Adobe menu system.

It has nothing to do with browsers and everything to do with readers. Chrome has a built-in PDF viewer. The new form used by USCIS apparently is written in a format that is not backwards compatible with many existing readers, other than, presumably, the latest Acrobat reader. I assume USCIS did not intend to do this, so they should be made aware of this mistake so they can fix it. I'm not quite sure how to best alert them though.

I have only had this problem with Google Chrome. I was using it as my default browser but changed back to Mozilla Firefox when I couldn't view and save PDF files from various websites. Are there settings in Google Chrome that I need to change in order to be able to display a PDF from a website and still have a save button displayed so that I can save the file to my computer?

I just clicked on the supposed dead end link and it opened up full 3 pages of the I-751 form. You may need to check your computer settings.

That's because Chrome uses its own internal PDF viewer. IE and Firefox delegate opening of PDFs to whatever PDF reader/plugin you have installed on your computer as they do not come with their own PDF viewer. If you have the latest Acrobat reader installed on your computer, you will be fine. If you want to bypass Chrome's internal PDF viewer, you will either need to download the PDF to your computer and open outside of Chrome, or

1. Type "about:plugins" in the address bar (without the quotes)

2. Hit enter

3. Click on details (near the top right)

4. Disable "Chrome PDF Viewer"

This will open up the PDF in the Acrobat plug-in if you have one installed. I don't recommend disabling the Chrome PDF reader though, personally. The other option is to use the older form at visapro.

This is an issue with any PDF viewer other than the latest Acrobat reader. FoxIt will not open up this PDF either. This, I hope, was a mistake on USCIS's part.

If you don't want to use AR (mine is 9, I just checked) - there's an option for you to request USCIS mail to you I-751.

At home I happen to be using Google Chrome also.

Almost every time when I try to log into a broker site (Scottrade)

using Google Chrome, I get their CHINESE version!

Then I go over to IExplorer and it doesn't do that.

I did the test here again and when I used the same URL for the USIS PDF form it opened the

I-751 form with no problem which I could then save. I went to the destination on my hard drive

and clicked on the file and it also opened without problem. That is, using IExplorer instead of Chrome.

It seems to be a problem with Chrome's interaction with the acrobat plug-in; don't know if

it's Adobe's fault or Google's but I'm just glad I could get the form somehow. I like certain things

about Chrome and will continue to use it, but have been aware that there are still some problems.

RSN, I bow to you for your expertise.

At first I didn't see the colon between "about:plugins" but your fix does work.

The form DOES open in Chrome as well as in IExplorer.

For others who are also using Chrome, be advised that you may have TWO PDF reader plugins active,

one for Adobe (which you keep)

Adobe Acrobat - Version: 10.0.0.396Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.0

and one for CHROME which you disable.

This is how it will look after it is disabled:

Chrome PDF Viewer (Disabled)Portable Document FormatName:Chrome PDF ViewerDescription:Portable Document FormatVersion:Priority:0Location:C:\Users\{MyUserName}\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\8.0.552.237\pdf.dll (Disabled) EnableMIME types:MIME typeDescriptionFile extensionsapplication/pdf.pdf

I'll have to check back into "about:plugins" to see if I can't get around that Chinese version snafu.

I filled it out in nothing flat; I think this last hurdle will be the easiest of all the K-1 steps.

No background/info requested except for former names & name(s) of child(ren).

They just want to have proof of relationship, similar to what was given in the AOS stage.
