I wonder if anyone has an idea about how much must be paid for over-weighed luggage while traveling with airfrance company?

I heard the allowed weight is 50 pounds ( 32 Kgs). We are taking more than that. I want to know how much to pay for extra stuff because we don't want to leave our stuff at the airport for any reason.

See this post and check with AF to see if they have an online prepayment plan for the extra bag.

for some reason I never get charged for extra luggage coming back to the US

Charges are determined by your carrier - you might want to share that info

as most carriers charge extra for the extra bag and/or weight.

In the old days, 2 bags and high weight limits were standard, but airlines

are competing on seat prices and have to make up the difference because

the price of oil won't be going south any time soon.

Well I usually fly Air France. The last time they didn't charge me was twice last summer and each of us had overweight and extra bags (this happened on two different occasions at two different airports outside of the US like 2 months apart). I even said something the first time like "aren't you going to charge me?" the guy said "no, it's ok"

That's cool.

Maybe they suspended the extra charges in order to be competitive on the dates that you flew.

You had great luck as the summer is the high season for travel.

Most airlines post their baggage limits/restrictions online.

We didn't pay attention as we should have when she flew BA last July.

We were in the middle of the AOS dance and her AP document had

come only with days to spare so the ticket was purchased at the last minute.

You might wanna check this out Air France Baggage regulations

I'm also going to fly with Air France and there's something else you should consider. Is it an Air France flight? Or is it a Delta operated by AF? If so, then you also need to check Delta's regulations: Checked baggage must weigh 50 lbs. or less and its combined length, width and height must measure 62 inches or less(158 cm).

50lbs ~ 23kg

My husband left Morocco in April 10' ,using AF with the required weight in 2 bags. Well they refused him to take the second bag NOT even giving him an option to pay for the second bag plus they made him remove some weight from the bag he choose. Luckily he had a friend with him to bring his things back to his family. I was shocked cos I just left Morocco 3 months before this and mine were at or over 1 or2 kilos and 2 bags and nothing was said NO EXTRA charges... !

So i dont think there is fair policy going on in the AF terminal when come to Morocco cos AF goes thur Air Maroc to France ...

I think it is luck of the draw!!

Good LUCK and safe journey !!

That sucks. Once I took a short hop from NYC-Philly and I happened to have with me a small-sized folding bike.

The baggage check outside the terminal saw that it was a bike and wanted to make me pay $100 extra for a "bike box"

which is only needed for full-sized bikes. I took it inside the terminal and stowed it inside my large duffel bag and

when they checked it in there were no questions at the inside check-in. It can be the luck of the draw with anything

in air travel. Sometimes you can get around stupid regulations by playing it smart and sometimes there is no hope. blush.gif

Thank you very much guys for the useful tips though i see Air France is a very mean company limiting passengers to only one bag!!! kind of disappointing as i want to take enough gifts to my family in-law.
