I was obviously, or so I thought, being facetious. I have a friend who refers to her ex Algerian husband and in-laws as "aliens from planet #######." So often I hear our SO's described as if they are in fact from another planet. As if a relationship with them could never ever work. There are lots of stereotypes and examples given of why the relationship will fail, but very little focus on the positive :)

What makes our marriage successful is that we are not only husband and wife...but we are Best Friends! We talk about everything whether it be our finances, our jobs, our families, or our lives in general. We have an understanding and a respect for each other as human beings and he always knows how to make me laugh, too. :luv: I have never known what true love was until Kamel came into my life.

Communication is the key to our marriage. We tell each other everything and discuss everything. I am lucky to have a man who does not ignore when I am upset and just hopes it goes away, this has been the case in my experiances with men. He always tells me, let's talk about it babe so we can fix it. Sometimes I am not ready to talk about it just yet so he gives me my space until I am ready to talk.

Definitely patience on my end. I had to keep remembering all he gave up just to come to a foreign country for me. Plus communication. I'm really proud how my Egyptian husband has really adapted to the US. We have come a long way since he arrived here last April!

We still have our differences but yet we know we love each enough to stay together!

I <3 my immigrant!! I'm getting bumper stickers made that say how much i do, it will bring us even closer together, inchallah.

You mean it's NOT like buying a Saab or Audi?!?

Saab+Audi=Saudi. See? It all comes full circle.

You know I have a graphic that may work for this... My Jordanian one?

What probably works for us is that we both have a lot in common in actuality, are relatively normal, and relate on most every level except for the fact that he doesn't like Wes Anderson. I mean, what is up with that? Maybe I made a mistake by starting out with "The Life Aquatic." Maybe I should have started with "Rushmore?"

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.
