I heard that the Muslim brotherhood was just handing out free hugs.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

cancel your cable subscription and just read the news. better than all those commercials blaring in your ears and then when they return to programming there is (as i remember it) a loud blaring sounds as they come to focus the camera in on the host. every time it is the same loud blare as they return to programming, because that's their signal for you to come running from the kitchen. they know many americans run to the kitchen to load their arms up with a big bag of potato chips, big gigantic bowl of ice cream and a 2 liter bottle of cola to last them until the next commercial break.

i canceled my subscription not only because of cable news, but local idiotic news too. just love it when local news reporters, the ones assigned to the news van, after a storm, they need to ride around, they are looking for a tree that fell down so they can show you just how bad the storm is/was. that's exciting, a tree fell down, when it knock out electricity, even more exciting... wow!!!

so much better not having a TV on in the house. so peaceful. sometimes i think about going back to TV, the thought lasts for just a second, then i come to my senses. no freaking way i will ever watch TV again in my life and i'm not 83, i still have plenty of life to live without TV.... yummy.

First off, Sofiyya, i truly appreciate your responses. They're very much in parallel with what's been going on.

If you folks are aware, the Egyptian regime disabled internet service since the early hours of Friday 1/28/2011 to stop the main means of communication between protesters (primarily on social media sites) especially on announcing the places of gathering and whatnot. Prior to such internet disconnection, there were endless pictures and videos on facebook from eyewitnesses who did a great job with coverage of events as they unfold. And this was CNN's main source of news (their iReport service), so kudos to CNN for using RELAIBLE sources versus the hoaxes by fox news. I swear to you, there were things i saw with my own eyes that were the complete opposite of FOX....and pretty much that's what FOX does..it "fox" the news :)

As for the Muslim brotherhood, they're off the agenda for many, many reasons, primarily is because they will keep Egypt off of any political discussion tables worldwide. I know EXACTLY the clip from FOX that you're referring to, and the interesting line that caught my attention was "What's in it for [Americans]". Seriously? They're trying to figure out how they're gonna be making their living and alllllllll what the reporter cares about is what's in it for Americans? I bet you an average Joe thinks Egypt is some ancient place that was mentioned in the bible -- why would he even care about their turmoil? To answer your question, it seems like either ElBaradei (former IAEA chief) or Omar Suleiman (head of Egyptian Intelligence) will become the interim president until new elections are organized..

The connection here is that the Muslim Brotherhood is close to the peolpe's needs and demands as opposed to NDP (National Democratic Party, the ruling one) and they're trying to fix their 1990's era notorious image that they're stereotyped with. And what matters for Egyptians isn't what Americans will think of their new president, why should one people's will be based on that of another from a completely different country?! I personally have no preference for them or for anyone else, all what I care about is a president who sticks to law and justice, not to his presidential chair. I hate how people stand with their party's representative regardless of his/her agendas. This is one more reason why I never intend to vote, neither in the US nor Egypt.

My friends in Egypt saw that "MADE IN USA" was imprinted on every teargas cannister that was being thrown at them.. One girl was hit in the head with one of such cannisters and died. Should Americans be blamed for assisting riot police? Absolutely not. These cannisters were supposed to be used for peacekeeping, not peace suppression. But it was never utilized for its intended use, thanks to President Mubarak.

I truly pray that Mubarak seizes power asap. The sooner he does, the sooner the current disarray will come to a halt.

I don't think that's all there is out there to succeed Mubarak, nor do I pretend to know what will happen. After the Iranian revolution, Tiananmen Square, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and break up of the Soviet Union, I know better than to speculate.

Except to speculate that FOX news is wrong.

Knowledgable people knew the break up of the Soviet Union was coming and would have happened at least 30 years sooner if we hadn't stepped on our d*cks so many times.

You have basically just told us thet you don't know what will happen, but it won't be what FOX news says. Brilliant.

I am amazed sometimes at the compulsion of some people to say just anything about topics they have absolutely no knowledge of, and if they can't do that, then they just throw a personal insult. I am happy to say that none of them ever agree with me.

Egypt is a country dominated by Muslims. As with any country dominated by a religion. I do not predict good things.

If Mubarak is deposed and the Islamic fundamentalists take over, will there be a "freedom of Speech" clause and the internet will be safe?

In the meantime, we should sell as much tear gas as possible...hey it is a recession here, and what else do we make anymore? It isnt like they buy washing machines from us.

Not to mention that we get to hear from non-English speakers, too.

Yay!!!!!!!! Good news for Egypt.

Read again, Gary. I didn't say Fox was wrong, I said they're obsessed with the MB. Obsession doesn't make for good news reporting. It's like deciding on a suspect in a murder without looking at the evidence first. I am sure they don't know what will happen since they have no crystal ball to tell them. Perhaps you are so conditioned to react to speculation that you call it news. I don't.

You scoff at anyone who doesn't know the outcome yet. So, do you know what will happen? If so, how do you know and what is your analysis? I was just there; were you? Are you basing your thoughts on what you learned the last time you were in Egypt? Please, tell us about it.

Egypt is still quite secular in nature, not dominated by religion, not a Saudi Arabia. Since you don't know that, you should take your own advice and not speak about subjects you know nothing about while throwing around personal insults :bonk:

I didn't say what would happen. I also didn't say FOX news was wrong because they are FOX news.

My prediction (and you should not assume what I know or where I have been and when, Sofiyya)is that islamic fundamentalists will take control of the government. What you see currently is a ruse. A rope-a-dope.

When it is over, you can tell me if I am wrong.

I didn't say what would happen and you criticized me for that. I also didn't say Fox News was wrong because they are Fox News, yet you criticized me, again, for something I didn't do.

My prediction (and you should not assume what I know or where I have been and when, Sofiyya)is that islamic fundamentalists will take control of the government. What you see currently is a ruse. A rope-a-dope.

I didn't assume anything, I asked you when you had been to Egypt and what you learned from your time there. You didn't answer, so I still don't know. I continue to be curious as to upon what you base your prediction.

When it is over, you can tell me if I am wrong.

You may be wrong, but, lacking your expanded analysis, I have scant information as to why you believe what you believe. Additionally, there is plenty of disconnect between what I write and what you read in my posts. I'm not sure why.
