Top Dem: We will ‘hang’ Republicans

Amidst a national dialogue about softening political rhetoric, members of an Obama-affiliated organization are threatening to hang Granite State Republicans in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, according to a news story in the Citizen of Laconia.

“They’re going to hang themselves,” said Belknap Democratic Chair Ed Allard of Republicans. “And we’re going to help them.”

Allard’s threat came during a meeting of despondent Democrats in Belknap County on Thursday evening. The meeting was hosted by President Obama’s Organizing for America.

Allard’s remarks come at a time when some in the national Democratic Party have attempted to blame conservative rhetoric for the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Gifford in Tuscon, Az. earlier this month.

After the tragedy in Tuscon, President Obama himself urged Americans to “pause for a moment, and to make sure that we are talking to each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.”

When the right does it it's violent rhetoric, when the left does it it's just a colorful metaphor.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

That's idiotic. It's got nothing to do with those on the left being innocent and the right guilty of vice versa; it's got to do with the context and intent. There are those who deliberately employ decisive language to create a 'us versus them' narrative. It makes for easy political choices for those who are swept along with emotional rhetoric but for actually producing pragmatic solutions that help 'we the people' it makes working with one's political opponent much more difficult than it needs to be and creates political institutions that are completely bogged down in ideology and ripe for corruption.

I see moronic denial still exists.

So...should we target that kind of rhetoric and put it in our crosshairs? Or should we just let the perpetrators hang themselves for using such inflammatory narrative?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Good grief. That's not an example of political acrimony, that's an example of people using a very common expression, "if you give them enough rope they will hang themselves" in its proper context. There is no hope for American politics at this rate, no hope at all.

Unbelievable.

Predictable. Oh well, if liberals say it on the radio, no one hears it anyway.

"we are going to help them".

I don't think it was a good thing to say.

We should ban all rope long enough to hang someone. Short sections of rope are OK, provided they're only long enough to make a noose but not so long as to actually hang someone with.

Where's the outrage?
