I believe the legend has outgrown the man. The trip I took to Simi Valley last year helped put the man back into perspective. I always thought the hype was a little over the top. Perhaps he was the right man in the right place at the right time, for some things, and a completely the the wrong man for others. Either way, he deserves some of the credit, and a lot of the blame.
