Who said he didn't? Does his employer also have every right to fire him for it?

The man had an opinion, get over it. Does his employer have a "right" to fire him? No, they may or may not try but the last time I looked it wasn't a firable offense to state a personal opinion on a non work related blog. You were hoping for a chorus of condemnation and you didn't get it. To bad for you.

The employer can fire him but they open themselves up to a lawsuit. If they can prove he is posting while on company time then they have every right to give him a warning at first then a fire for the next time. If he is blogging on his own personal time then he has every right to expect to be able to voice his opinion on a blog.

I have pretty much said that many things were ugly on my own time so is my employer allowed to fire me for voicing my opinion?

Most likely, he can be fired for expressing an opinion in public that puts his employer's attorney-client relationships in jeopardy. Associate attorneys and other professionals generally labor under employment contracts which outline the conditions for termination for cause. According to the article, the blog was removed at the request (more like an ultimatum) from his firm, and the Chairman issued a prompt apology and rejection of his statements. Believe me, the heat is on at work for him.
