These are the two (in my opinion only) most provocative stories coming out of Thailand;

the first one from Thaivisa (BKK Post and Nation don't have a clue yet)

and the second from BKK Post.

Germany Seizes Crown Prince's Aircraft for old construction debt owed to German company

Lese Majesté Trial begins (Military)

Yeah I've been following that plane thing. Pretty sure he'll have his plane back in no time. What are the Germans thinking? Pretty much the equivalent of seizing a Thai Airways jet.

I think the Germans probably know they can't hold it for long, but they just wanted to make some noise.

The charges against the military officer seem a little far-fetched; his facebook account was being

monitored and it seems he was making comments regarding a generic "authority figure" in the

context of a well-known drama that had no direct connection to royalty or the king.

"I was referring to the dictatorial father in the drama that led to problems in the family. The 'Thang Thome' song was also a song that has been heard everywhere in the market place, but they said I was referring to something else, which is ridiculous," said the 36-year-old military officer.

His father, a 63-year-old retired police officer, came from Petchaburi to bail him out this morning, as he had when he turned himself in to the military attorney on Nov 17 last year.

Apparently this is the FIRST "Lese Majesté" case brought against a member of the Thai military.

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

That's the only e-mail they gave in the website. Maybe you have to call instead 02-205-2168.

SATIRE:

Pattaya Officially Changes Name to ‘The Infamous Seaside Resort of Pattaya’

THE INFAMOUS SEASIDE RESORT OF PATTAYA — Known worldwide as a den of crime and vice, Pattaya municipal officials have decided to embrace its reputation by officially renaming the city “The Infamous Seaside Resort of Pattaya”.

Explaining the decision, Mayor Tik Kunplome said, “We found that almost every international press report referred to us as ‘the infamous seaside resort’. Rather than waste more money trying to brand our city as a family-friendly destination, we’ve decided that the moniker will help bring in more of those tourists to whom we cater best. Let’s not pretend anymore. Sex, drugs, prostitution — this ###### sells.”

The mayor said to generate fresh international publicity for The Infamous Seaside Resort of Pattaya, police would raid go-go bars, briefly detain some of the town’s best-known pedophiles, throw a few old foreigners off balconies, and ask the town’s waxworks museum to resurrect its Hitler billboard.

Depends on your wife's religion, where she has lived previously, her background, etc, etc.

Don't use the C word. ^_^ After all this waiting the only thing that can go wrong now is for something to close the embassy and mess up our interview.
