We are contemplating a month-long trip to Thailand in August.

To get the longest possible stay over there, if the flight arrives

in Bangkok on Aug. 3, would I as the farang be OK with a month's

tourist visa if we returned September 3?

I tried the Visa Calculator over at Thaivisa.com and when I

plugged in those dates, it came up with 32 days.

Would I be up for a fine/penalty if the total days were 32?

Is there any flexability?

You probably just want to get a tourist visa for 35.00 from the Thai Embassy, I used (http://www.thai-or.com/). That way you will have no complications. The airlines could give you hassle when you are boarding that you do not have a valid visa to travel since your return is longer than 30 days out.

If I remember correctly the fine is 500 baht a day for an overstay, so it is going to be pretty close to the cost of the tourist visa, and you will have no hassle.

Thanks for the info. I may just make sure the stay is 30 days, or else if I can only get

a good airfare for the longer period, pay the tourist visa charge here in NY as the

Thai consulate is in walking distance from where I work.

The tourist visa will be good for 60 days

My wife has 2 part time jobs, but last year she went to Thailand for a month's vacation

before she started either.

Since I will be retiring this summer, she wants me to come with her to Thailand again,

but the difference is now she will have to ask both jobs for time off. Naturally she won't

have accrued enough vacation time for either, but she just called and said a co-worker

at one job asked for a long vacation and they either promised or threatened to fire her.

I said sure, that doesn't surprise me, but what you should ask for is "Leave Without Pay"

(LWOP).

Do any of the Thai spouses out there know the Thai for LWOP?:help:

I have no skins in this game. That's the difference between a true open forum, and TV. You crack me up. How much are those shysters on Whittayu paying you? You should be ashamed of yourself. Go ahead and hide behind the "rules" I was a member on this site long before you came along (2004). Unfortunately I used a company email that I couldn't recover. Visajourney.com doesnt have a problem with me linking your site.

I'll keep it up and delete my cookies etc. and continue on. Suspend me for life. I'm trying to help people. You and this site are more interested in caving to your advertisers.

I lived there for 3 years. I met my wife there and have alot to offer people that are getting ready to go through this US visa process. BTW K3 is a dead visa. You might want to tell people that.

Thank you for you comments.

It has been pointed out to the OP that he was asking about the wrong thing. If you cared enough to read other people's replies you would know that.

I find your suggestion that I am being paid by anyone rude and defamatory. I have no connection with any embassy, and indeed personally know next to nothing about the US visa system; something you would know if you bothered to read the forums properly.

If you have any further comments or complaints about my moderation, I suggest that you contact support.

I never implied that you were connected to any embassy. You dreamed up that one up on your own. I also didn't imply that you personally were being paid by any "visa agent" That said it is quite obvious that TV IS being paid by them via ads. It's kinda hard to read the OPs responses when you guys delete half of them.

For someone that says "personally know next to nothing about the US visa system" I sure see you jumping in and offering advice about something you claim you know nothing about.

I never implied that you personally were being paid by visa agents in BKK, but surely you have 2 eyes and can see the ads.

I made it home safe. Almost hit a few kids on mopeds that cut in front of us. I thought they were going to fall off but they did not and they kept going on their partying ways. It is a crazy time and I want to be back for it again some year soon.

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

I feel sorry for this poor guy, his pic splashed over the world and it was only self defense apparently.

Tour Guide Snuffs Yakuza

w27.jpg

A Thai tour guide surrendered himself to the police confessing that he had shot dead one Japanese tourist and wounded another, after a heated argument during the trekking in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand.

On 26th April, 2011 the tour guide, Apichart Inphisak, 41, turned himself in to the police and admitted to the crime that he had committed earlier at 10 a.m.

Mr. Inphisak guided two Japanese tourists, Hiromichi Nagano, 59 and Takushi Condo, 43, to Chiang Rai mountainous area, visiting the Lisu people, a Tibeto-Burman ethnic group.

Takushi was constantly complaining and cursing especially about the tour while travelling in the green Suzuki jeep, Mr. Inshisak said.w36.jpg

Even when they were trekking in the woods, the complaining continued, he added.

When Mr. Inshisak could not tolerate the criticism any longer, he started his verbal retaliation which subsequently instigated an intense argument between the guide and tourists.

Suddenly Takushi extracted his gun from the holster and shot the tour guide but he missed, Mr. Inshisak reported.

The guide added that in the heated moment he shot back at both Japanese tourists six times, which had wounded one and killed the other before making his escape.

At the crime scene police found the body of Takushi with two punctured wounds – one in the head and one in the back. The police also noticed an empty gun holster on the deceased’s waistline.

One of the three backpacks found at the scene contained 100 of $100 bills, a total worth of $10,000 and a 9mm. pistol.

The other tourist, Hiromichi was also shot in the head but he managed to seek help from local people, who took him to the hospital, the police reported.

Based on police’s background check, two tourists were members of Japan’s third most popular gang. Takushi was in fact the leader of the gang. In 2006 Takushi was allegedly accused of a murder in Tokyo.

These Japanese gangsters do not appear to be the trekking type of tourists, as indicated by the reported grumble, the police speculated.

Police believe that the gangsters may have a hidden agenda in the woods and hence requesting the trekking trip.

What is your favorite discount airline consolidator site?

Mine are :

1. Kayak

2. Priceline

3. bt-store.com

I just got tickets yesterday for my wife, myself & a friend to go to Thailand for a month.

I didn't know about bt-store, but a friend from Sweden recommended http://matrix.itasoftware.com

and it looks interesting (displays cheapest prices in a calendar format, then you click on the day

and it lists all flights on all carriers available on that day). It also matches ranges of departure/

return dates for the best price.

However, the ticket that I had already bought from Priceline.com (Finnair, $1,210.90) was cheaper

than the one for the same dates that was displayed on "matrix." Matrix had only slightly lower

fares for other dates that I didn't want to fly on. With 20-20 hindsight, I think Finnair is trying to

recoup market share lost during last year's volcanic cloud episode in Iceland (Eyjafjallajökull).

Our return date will be Sept. 11, the 10 year anniversary of the attacks. I figured there are enough

superstitious folks out there to make that day look a little less appealing, but my take on it is that

the terrorist radar will be so high on that day that anyone thinking of commiting an act would pick

another day because the best terrorist tactic is to hit 'em when they're not lookin'.

I used to find the cheapest seats on Sidestep.Com but that was taken over by Kayak.com and

I wasn't very impressed with them this time around. This will be the 3rd time I've bought from

Priceline; I just took the lowest price they offered because every time I tried to negotiate it was

rejected. It may be a cool scam, but they do have low prices. I think the only way to get a really

low one would be to go to the airport with a web telephone and make a bid a few hours before

a flight that was not fully booked.

PS - Kayak is a consolidator/filter site - you don't buy anything there but it redirects you to where you can.

Very very often there's a link on Kayak that says at the destination site "this intinerary no longer available."

Shee-IT!

However on Priceline, when they offer something you CAN buy it and that is the price, period.
